Spam is getting better packaging

Am I the only one that is beginning to see spammers appearing as legitimate posters, putting in threads, commenting on others' threads, but without real engagement...and then suddenly collaborating with new and obvious attempts to market things?

Or am I growing suspicious in my old age?

I agree..
We are probably thinking of the same person.
Never responds to questions.
Broken English.
Doesn't quite get the question the OP is asking.
(Probably because she's not using an updated
"translate" program.)

Although the person I am thinking of has yet
to hit me with the spam.
She did once give advise to herself not realizing
she was the OP.

I don't want to bust her yet because she has
worked really hard posting an average of 3 x a day .

Can't wait for the sales pitch.
It better be good........

Forboys--I know who you are talking about! Posts in Kitchens and Appliances, too. I'm not so sure that person is a spammer though. I think someone just messing with heads. We had someone like that around Kitchens for some time. I think he/she was called out enough times that they finally bugged off.

I have noticed what Bronwynsmom is talking about with other posters. Obviously they don't know how smart we are around here to have caught onto them already. ;)

Breezygirl~ Did you see the post where she called
someone a spammer.....:)

Do you think maybe people are just practicing their English here and not really intending to spam? I know who you mean, there are two here actually that seem suspicious right now, but since not trying to sell anything (yet) I wondered if it was a way to learn/practice English in a conversational manner?

Also in bathrooms.

>Do you think maybe people are just practicing their English here and not really intending to spam?

Possible, but doubtful, considering that the first several posts were responses to blatant spammers encouraging further posts.

glad to know I'm not the only one who noticed that; it's rare they stick around that long though.

I thought that at first too, now I believe she/he is a younger person interested in the topic and practicing her English.

If it's the same person I think it is, (registered less than a month ago), maybe she came on as a spammer and ended up liking it here? Isn't her spamming a little subtle for a real Spammer?

oak, makes sense, too subtle, and the person seems to enjoy starting threads, although rarely returning to them. I kept thinking the apple would turn into a slice of spam but it never happened.

I think most spammers think we are stupid and will fall for it. Just recently got back on here, so I have not seen too much. Will be on the lookout.

I think very young ...even if not chronologically so...

Now there are three. I think. Talking to each other. I don't get it! :)

Somebody is creeping up on selling us wallpaper, don't you think?

I have read some of these now and some of them have me laughing out loud!!!

I have no idea who you are talking about. There are many posters here now and I can't keep up with who is who. I think before accusing someone of spamming and talking like they are not reading this thread, I would be sure they are, in fact, spammers. It makes me think of the apostrophe thread where tempers flared because posters thought they were being singled out.

There will always be spammers - I agree with yaya - I just ignore and read on.

tina

The apostrophe thread was totally different.

And I think we are up to four!

I was wondering about practicing English too, but if they really did want to practice they would respond back to the clarity questions. Glad I read this I didn't know what to think of it just no responses.

Admin moved this to Conversations. Does that mean they deleted all the suspicious posts?

It looks like they did. I can pull them up, but not open them. I get a Whoops message saying it's not there. When this happens, do they notify the poster?
Just curious.

I only remember one of their names and all of her posts have been removed. Assuming they did the same to the other three.

Lizbeth - the posters with posts removed (still have no idea who you're talking about LOL) will get a "friendly reminder" telling them what their offense was.

tina

Thanks, Tina!

Tina, more than likely went further than a FR.

Now I'm curious Natal, what else would happen - you mean banned?

Ya know, as a rule, I don't like spam, of course, but I often consider the possible backgrounds of some of these spammers, we are rich westerners, for the most part, and here for the picking. In a small way, I admire their tenacity and feel sorry for them although I don't want our forums inundated with spam, and we all know its smell a mile off and will never succumb.

Now there is royalty dredging up old mattress threads.

I wish there were an easier way to report spam.

Has anyone else been emailed through GW about buying prescription sleep aid samples? Remember that post long ago on sleeping? I can't even remember what all it was about but a Brett person who emailed me through GardenWeb mail referred to it and offered to sell ambien samples. He/she must not have read it properly because I do remember stating that I hate ambien and prefer lunesta except insurance companies seem to have some ties with ambien and will not easily give in to lunesta (which is non habit forming). So, I guess there are people sneaking around our threads. I do not state my real birthday on my info page and encourage others not to as well. You never know at what lengths a person will go on gathering bits about you.

You should also not use your birth year in your email address. I see so many people who do this, like kathysmith68@xyz.com. So now I know your first and last names, plus the year you were born. Lots of information for a scammer.

I thought you were talking about the food product. Duh!

well not necessarily. I'm tinam61 but that's not the "real" me. LOL

I guess I missed it; don't get to the other side much these days. If any of the posts are there can someone email me a link? I want to see too! lol

I gave the page to one of my neighbors; she has a decor blog; likes to repurpose stuff; thought she'd love it here. I told her if she posts to just watch linking to her blog; but as far as I know; she does not sell anything.

Roselvr, they've all been deleted.

Thanks Natal

They weren't anything special, roselvr. They were just coming often.

I'm glad the person who asked questions or to show us what she's done around her house has either stopped or slowed down on posting, because we had to click on the link to her blog every single time. I almost said something but didn't, it got to the point where I was wondering if she was making money off of us!

This one is the oddest and funniest I've ever seen!

snookums, indeed hilarious. Perhaps one of the escorts is called fern, lol

That is the funniest thing I have ever read! Thanks for sharing snookums. I'm tempted to keep the thread going just so others can have a laugh as well.

Maybe it's too early but I don't get it.

I think something must have happened to that link!

I think there may have been something deleted in that thread, because I didn't get it either.

Glad someone got to enjoy it! lol Too bad it was deleted so soon. I almost pasted it here darn it. That one was very short lived but at least provided some entertainment!

That's crazy, I can still see it.

I am thinking of using this in entry way, 2 story foyer and upstairs hall....has anyone used it in that much space - what do you think?? I am really stuck - originally was going with a yellow/gold and after 6 weeks cannot find the right shade. I have seen Soft Fern in several online designer rooms and love it. Anyone have pictures that are true to color?? I will get a sample if needed, but want reviews of it before I put $ out for yet another sample. Thanks!

I can still see the post from Wolfpackmom, but I believe there must have been a link in the post that has since been removed.

I must be dense, but not understanding at all why a post about using a particular paint color would be considered spam? Would someone please enlighten me on this one?

TIA

There was a post that has been removed that managed to wax poetic about soft fern (the paint colour) connecting to the history of ferns and making the leap (again, very poetically) to the oldest profession and then gave a link to an escort agency. "A" for effort and imagination.

spammer on BMSoft Fern query:

Hi, I read your content its really amazing and interesting, BM Soft Fern is the study of life-forms from the distant past, as revealed primarily through the record of fossils left on and in the earth.
We are providing the Brit Escorts in Wigan utilising the services of escorts was at one time considered as a thing to be kept quiet. As a occupation it's " and so on and so forth.

snookums, I guess nothing ends up erased at all, it's all out there.
