Interesting test right/left brain...

This came to me from a mosaics list -- and it came to that from an artglass list...I bet this school wonders why the test is getting so many hits! But it's quick and fun...

I think I stumped it, though: I got left 50/right 51. Something doesn't add up : )

What do other folks get?

Here is a link that might be useful: right/left brain dominance quick test

    Interesting!

Here's mine: 48% left-brained; 52% righ-brained. Strikes me as pretty accurate. Here's the summary: "You are more right-brained than left-brained. The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. In addition to being known as right-brained, you are also known as a creative thinker who uses feeling and intuition to gather information. You retain this information through the use of images and patterns. You are able to visualize the "whole" picture first, and then work backwards to put the pieces together to create the "whole" picture. Your thought process can appear quite illogical and meandering. The problem-solving techniques that you use involve free association, which is often very innovative and creative. The routes taken to arrive at your conclusions are completely opposite to what a left-brained person would be accustomed. You probably find it easy to express yourself using art, dance, or music. Some occupations usually held by a right-brained person are forest ranger, athlete, beautician, actor/actress, craftsman, and artist."

    That was fun! Thanks!

I didn't save mine as bestyears, maybe because I'm the opposite score...LOL

That was very interesting! Mine was 47-53.

43% left, 57% right. Hmmm...highest percentage for right side is 39% Random...yeah, pretty much sums it up. ;)

41% left, 58% right. I scored highest on sequential (left)40% and nonverbal (right) 50%. I found this most interesting: You have the ability to use both creativity and reality to process the information you receive. This is a unique gift that allows you to both focus on rules and regulations but to also act with creativity. You are able to adjusting to change, even though you might not like it, and you can become emotionally involved in your work if it interests you.

    So very true!

57% left, 43% right - no surprises for me

You are more left-brained than right-brained. Your left brain controls the right side of your body. In addition to being known as left-brained, you are also known as a critical thinker who uses logic and sense to collect information. You are able to retain this information through the use of numbers, words, and symbols. You usually only see parts of the "whole" picture, but this is what guides you step-by-step in a logical manner to your conclusion. Concise words, numerical and written formulas and technological systems are often forms of expression for you. Some occupations usually held by a left-brained person include a lab scientist, banker, judge, lawyer, mathematician, librarian, and skating judge

    55% left, 45% right.

43% Linear Processing: When processing information using this method, you will occasionally feel the need to see the "whole picture" before you are able to achieve results. At other times, you are able to piece all of the parts together in a straight and logical progression to form a whole, which then enables you to understand what you have processing. The information, your mood, and your level of comfortable are all factors that determine your response to a linear processing problem.

This explains why I had so much trouble picking curtains, since I did not see the whole picture! I wanted to know how it would end before I made any decisions in the beginning.

abundantblessings, did you really get a left-brain dominant? Left brains need more representation here on this design forum, although lyfia is trying hard to even the balance : )

(p.s. as a former figure skater, I had to laugh at the 'skating judge' career track...I have such a vivid image of those folks in my memory...makes me laugh again just typing it!)

58% left and 42% right. My highest left-brain score was in verbal processing, & highest right-brain score was in holistic processing. Interesting quiz, Flyleft!

fly, I also used to skate (at PSCHS) and laughed at that also-of course, that was back in the day when school figures were still heavily weighted. Sort of a shame they did away with those, I think.

left out the ampersand-should have been PSC&HS

OH my gosh, cyn...do we have something else in common?! I skated primarily at Tysons in VA (and Cabin John) with the --what was it called -- the FSC down in Maryland and DC--it wasn't the WFSC, was it? Washington FSC? I can't believe I'm blanking on that. I knew several folks, teachers and students, who came from Wilmington...it was the 70s...we probably shouldn't mention names on this forum but I bet we know a lot of the same people, even beyond the Finn Bros : ) (btw, have you heard about "Pajama Club"? very sweet (do I dare call it a "vanity-"?) project bet. Neil & Sharon...)

I remember the name of your club, though, and it always made me scratch my head--why Humane Society? Did you all wear skates to rescue cats? : )

Ah, stinky, that explains why you always know the right words to say in any situation : )

Glad you think so Fly, & thanks...others may not concur with your assessment, LOL!

Thing is, these results are more than a little surprising to me. Took the quiz 3 times & did indeed, get the same results. I could never in a million years have a career in math or science! I married my DH because someone in the household needed to be able to do math, LOL (he's a physicist.)

If I told you what percentile I was in on my SAT in math you'd just really wonder how I function in the world. Okay, I'll be brave & tell you the very sad truth. I scored in the 30th percentile in math on the SAT! That means that 70% of those who took the exam scored better than I! That means that if I'd scored in that percentile in Language Arts/English, I'd be functionally illiterate!I truly have no aptitude for math...zero, zilch, nada!

I scored in the 97th percentile in Language Arts/English. Writing in school was always my salvation. I could write my way to success in any course. If there were no opportunites for writing, then I usually didn't fare so well. So, I am startled that I tested as a "left-brainer!" Can't wait to tell my DH, & can't wait to have him take this quiz!

    57% left, 43% right.

    Your Left Brain Percentages
59% Symbolic (Your most dominant characteristic)
6% Linear (Your least dominant characteristic)

    Your Right Brain Percentages
46% Concrete (Your most dominant characteristic)
0% Random (Your least dominant characteristic)

Some occupations usually held by a left-brained person include .... librarian, and skating judge.

Fly, I'm another one who skated (and worked) at an ice rink! Too funny!

    53/47 for me. Fun quiz!!

yeah, fly, 53/47, same as lyfia. Though I too laughed at the skating judge, with the emphasis on skating. As a southerner, I saw snow flakes twice before college. When I moved away, I bravely tried ice skating and broke my ankle 2nd time out.

These results are fascinating. I hope more take the test and post.

    Thanks again!

58% Left, 42% Right. I'm anal like Jeff Lewis. ;)

Flyingflower, you & I have the same score...who is Jeff Lewis? Btw, are you good at math?

Jeff Lewis is the designer on Flipping Out. He's the guy who wants the cans in his pantry to line up.
    I have a BA in Mathematics. ;-)

Another 50/51%'er, just like Fly --

"In addition to being known as right-brained, you are also known as a creative thinker who uses feeling and intuition to gather information. You retain this information through the use of images and patterns. You are able to visualize the "whole" picture first, and then work backwards to put the pieces together to create the "whole" picture."

48% Sequential (Your most dominant characteristic)
    47% Verbal
44% Fantasy-oriented (Your most dominant characteristic)
    42% Holistic

This plays out pretty well with my work -- which is both creative and highly systematic. I envision my work as building scaffolding to shape a cloud...

    Curious about the Fantasy-oriented ;-)

60% Left and 40% Right, highest % was Left Brain Verbal. No surprises there, as language is my field, both foreign and English. Give me pattern, organization, something to sort out and I'm a happy camper.

I was startled to see "skating judge" in the left brain category. Would that be because they must focus on very exact details?

OMG, Flyingflower, you smart little butterfly you...a math major! (My results kind of challenge the validity of the test, LOL!) Thanks for telling me who Jeff Lewis is. Have only seen snippits of his show & that was a few years back.

Sweeby, you & Fly are so balanced, so versatile... the very epitome of a harmonic melding of Yin & Yang! Cool!

Holy sun flares! I just took it for the 3rd time and got 60/40. When I took it twice in a row initially the results were pretty much the same. I was sure the third time would be more reflective of my creative, non-conforming side.

On these types of tests I usually score as very intuitive, and indeed am (occasionally spookily so) and I have a well-developed (inherited) creative side. Thanks to my great parents and lucky genes. But I admit I'm very comfortable with left brain approaches as long as I satisfy my pretty high need for aesthetics. Unlike SG, my SATs were fairly even, with the verbal 2 pts higher. Must be sun spot activity adversely affecting my right side as the day wanes. ; )

Yes, AB, I hear you! On Myers-Briggs I am an INFP. Intuitive, Feeling, Perceptive, yada, yada. Also, don't imagine TOO many people end up with results as polarized as mine on their standardized tests.

Unfortunately, I didn't like math, didn't see the point of it, & refused to "apply myself" toward learning how to master it. Could it be that a mathematical genius has been lurking in the deep recesses of my brain all these years? Like I said, I kind of wonder about this quiz!

Whatever! It was fun to take & even more fun to see everyone's results! Still want to put DH, a bona fide "Science Man" to the test!

Another 60/40 here. Not surprised at all. My math scores on the SAT were higher than my verbal. My dominant left-brain characteristic was "logical", at 59%. On the right it was "holistic" at 42%.

Somehow it all sorts out in the end. I've got a journalism degree, and am a lawyer now. I'm also a long-time musician and have a love of design. DH is an IT guy (mostly systems/networks more than programming), but I'm the nerd in the house who handles the money and plans everything.

    Fly-too funny.

The HS comes from back in the 19th c. when the club was founded and all skating was done outdoors and much of it on the Schuylkill River. Members were required to carry ropes when they skated to assist in rescues if someone fell through the ice. In fact, we are still required in the by-laws to carry a rope whenever we skate outdoors! I kept my memebership for years after we moved to DC area, but finally gave it up. Still have my skates in the closet ready to go though! Don Laws was my coach and I imagine I was a disappointment, but he was always wonderful. Great guy and he had the coolest Jaguar XKE you've ever seen. I pretty much quit around '66 when I started high school. Fun times. I moved to ice dancing as an adult, but just for fun.

I will check out 'Pajama Club'. Thanks for the heads up! I am kicking myself for missing them at a local club here last spring-bad time of year for me at school and concerts were totally out of my thoughts-darn!

    74% left, 26% right.

I'm not surprised. Science major in college; career in a science field. I don't have a creative bone in my body. :(

Okay, I'm scared. My results were:
Left Brain 52% Right Brain 48%.

    I took the test twice.

Folks, I'm an editor. I write. I work with words. I stink at math.

So why is the test telling me that I'm good at what I'm bad at?

    Help.

This was interesting. I've been an artist all my life, but career was IT/Networking and training engineers in computer graphic applications. Hence, my login name Emagineer. Terrible at math. Could never be a lawyer, etc. as the test suggested.

Also taught behavior analysis to employees. Test results will be somewhat different depending upon where you are (environment) when taking them.

I would be interested in knowing if you are at work, home, ect. when each answered the questions.

    Left Brain Right Brain
    51% 49%

You are more left-brained than right-brained. Your left brain controls the right side of your body. In addition to being known as left-brained, you are also known as a critical thinker who uses logic and sense to collect information. You are able to retain this information through the use of numbers, words, and symbols. Concise words, numerical and written formulas and technological systems are often forms of expression for you. Some occupations usually held by a left-brained person include a lab scientist, banker, judge, lawyer, mathematician, librarian, and skating judge.

Great to know all the talents here.

hhmmm, 35-65... not what i would have guessed for myself... i would have thought i would have scored closer to 50-50!!

Yes, emagineer, I'm curious too as to environment and time of testing. I know creativity ebbs and flows, so perhaps that accounts for my left take over after a day with a few unexpected interruptions. I was home both times, but much more hot and tired by the late afternoon.

camlan, I thought language was a left-brain thing (roughly speaking) -- your score makes sense to me. What did their comments say?

    Forgot to post my subgroups:

    Your Left Brain Percentages

42% Logical (Your most dominant characteristic)
    40% Verbal
    35% Sequential
    34% Reality-based
    32% Linear
25% Symbolic (Your least dominant characteristic)

    Your Right Brain Percentages

56% Random (Your most dominant characteristic)
    46% Concrete
    42% Holistic
    34% Intuitive
    24% Fantasy-oriented
19% Nonverbal (Your least dominant characteristic)

A paradoxical combination of logic and randomness. Yep, that pretty much sums it up. Otherwise known as Libra : )

Yes, & I would imagine that during different years in one's life, scores could vary.

In 2003 I'd be willing to wager that if I'd taken this quiz I'd have scored about 11 on the left, 89 on the right! My life in more recent times has demanded that I engage the left part of my brain quite a bit more than I needed to in the past.

68% Left and 32% Right. I hate Math.

Another 50/51 here. As with most of those sorts of tests, I didn't have a clue how to answer quite a few of the questions. Apparently, I'm also not very self-aware.

62 left, 38 right. No surprise; algebra was my bete noir. Now language...
