The Cowboy Wedding

Just an update on how the cowboy wedding I attended turned out.

The wedding took place on an active farm/winery. The ceremony was outdoors. The reception was in a building made to look like a barn with walls and roof but one side was open. There were pull down canvas type walls if needed. The weather was perfect! Temps in the 70's. I only wore my jean jacket about 10% of the time.

Here are some pics. I had to include faceless photos of others. The bride wore a traditional dress but as you can see the groom and the wedding party had on jeans/jean dresses.

Many wore cowboy boots and hats. I actually felt over dressed. Many people were very casual as in jeans and a t-shirt. The favors were homemade jam and beer can cozies. The wedding was mix of simple elegant county and "beer drinking, pickup driving" country.

A few weeks ago I had suggested all the women dance to Nancy Sinatra's These boots were made for walking. Well I practiced quite a bit from the youtube video but others did not. So when the song started many women went up to the dance floor but they just tried to follow my lead. I froze for a few seconds but then was able to start dancing. Everyone said it looked good, and can now forever dance to this song, LOL.

There were rumors that another country wedding in barn is coming next May. Other than the boots I will need a completely new outfit!

I had on bracelets you can't see with the jacket and I put dangly matching earrings on the boot jewelry. I did end up wearing fuchsia colored nail polish. I got a lot of compliments so I think the outfit came together well. I bought DH a black shirt and insisted he wear it. He never wears black.

I should have taken the advice on bringing an extra pair of pantyhose (Hanes silk reflections as suggested). I got a snag high on my thigh from a chair. Thankfully it did not run down my leg and my dress covered it.

You look terrific (love your jewelry) and your hubs is hot. The bride and groom are gorgeous. Her hair is amazing. Those bridesmaid (?) dresses makes them look like escapees from a square dance.

I couldn't picture the little black dress and denim jacket when you first showed them separately, but they look great. I love your necklace.

Those poor bridesmaids. I hope their dresses looked better in person. Still, beats the puffy pink dresses of the 80's.

While those bridesmaid dresses were not something I would pick, I think they did look better in person but not on all the women, unfortunately. My photos were somewhat blurry.

What I don't like about bridesmaid dresses in general is that unless all the women look the same, have the same body style, the same dress will not look good on everyone. This was noticeable at this wedding.

I would love to see a wedding were the maids dresses could be made different for each person. With my wedding almost 29 years ago, my maid of honor was concerned about her arms. We had the seamstress make sleeves on her dress but not the others, which has spaghetti straps. It looked fine.

Agree about bridesmaid dresses. My friend's daughter told her bridesmaids to buy a long black dress, any style that flattered them as long as the blacks were all the same (you know how black can really be a lot of shades). Worked great.

There is always at least one bridesmaid I feel sorry for because the dress is the worst possible fit for her. The whole wedding thing is out of control, IMO, although this cowboy wedding looked like fun and everyone got to be comfortable.

That is why JCrew is genius when it comes to bridesmaids dresses. The bride picks the color and length and the bridesmaid picks the style that is flattering to them.

I still don't understand the tradition of identical dresses. My DD's best friend was in tears because the dress her sister picked looked great on the skinny friends but horrible on someone of average build. The bride insisted it was couture! Would not give her sister a different option.

My dd's bil is getting married. The bride asked dd to be a bridesmaid and picked a dress that looked fine on the other girls but not on dd. The dress was going to cost $250 plus another $100 in alterations and it would still be too low in the chest. Dd opted not to be a bridesmaid. That's a lot of money to pay for a dress that she would only wear once and have to hold her hand to her chest every time she bent over.
