HAIER split unit - good brand?

I'm considering having a 2-ton, 14 SEER Haier unit installed to replace a 25-year old Goodman unit that should have been replaced decades ago.

Does anyone have experience with Haier split units? I know I should focus on finding a good installer, and not worry about brand name. But I'm a bit nervous since no one seems to have any experience with this brand.

    Yam2006:

Consumers Reports recently did a review of Haier chest and upright freezers for home use and Haier was really bad.

That being the case, I would be extremely leery of a cooling system for the house by that brand.

I believe it is a Chinese label, but it may be German, don't know for sure.

Yikes! I checked the reviews of their portable AC units on Epinions and they're pretty bad too. But I can't find any information about their full-size AC systems. I'm just about to rule them out due to the poor record of their other product lines.

China like Europe recognizes the size of the marketplace of America. When Maytag was on the chopping block a Chineese company tried to acquire thier brands. Whirlpool came to the rescue and bought Maytag and wasted many dollars to perserve the American company. My question is, if the Chineese company had acquired Maytag, would it have been better for American consumers. Most of the parts are made in China. I think it would have been better. Remember at one time Japan had very poor quality control. As American business relied more on Japan to produce consumer products, the quality increased to a level much higher than American companies. Maytag already had QC issues, so any change would be better.

For many years, it was difficult to find electronic parts to repair Japanese electronics. Now the parts are readily available.

I am not in favor of buying foreign. It has ruined our job market. When the job market was reduced, less money is available for purchasing goods. More social services are needed. Just because Walmart can market a $10 pair of jeans in 2006, and the same brand of jeans was $50 in 1990, does not mean it is better, It means thousands of jobs are no longer available to people in the USA. It means that the USA has a weaker economy now than in 1990. This does not mean I won't buy foreign, if the product is superiour.
