My son's best friend's wife is having a baby. I haven't knitted in a very long time, but somehow I just found myself in Michael's searching thru various baby afghans booklets. I found a small leaflet that has 4 afghans. Looks easy enough. So I buy it.

Well, it says to use so much of one color of double knitting weight yarn and the same amount of another color. The afghan is made holding 1 strand of one color and one strand of another together.

So my question to you is....What is double knitting weight yarn? Is this a certain type of yarn? like baby yarn, sports yarn etc? or is this double (because I have to use 2 strands) normal knitting worsted weight yarn?
