The instep stitches should be 1/2 the total mumber of stitches....and each of the other 2 needles should hold 1/4th of the total. you decrease at each end of the instep needle and at the end of the foot stitches that is nearer to the instep...and on the other needle that ia also closest to the instep. Let's say you are beginning your row with the first needle of the sole...you k1 drcrease and continue across the row. Next sole needle...work to within 2 stitches of the end...decrease and k1. Then on the instep needle you decrease at each end....
Knit a row even...and repeat.

I see! I had switched to 4 needles through the foot of the sock because it seemed more comfortable for knitting, then when switching back to 3 needles for the toe, I distributed the stitches evenly on the 3 needles, which was not looking right at all. I'll have to take out a few rows and then redistribute with 24 on the instep and 12 on each of the side needles.
