Can Mini-Split AC lines be run INSIDE the walls?

I would like to install a 3-zone mini-split heat pump in a 2-story townhouse condo. It's an end unit, and while the homeowners' association doesn't mind the compressor/condensor unit being located outside the building since it can be screened, they don't want the refrigeration/drain lines running down the side of the building (whether covered or not).

I've received conflicting advice about whether the lines can be primarily run INSIDE the walls, between the studs etc, and exit to the outside only at the bottom near the outside unit. Other than being a pain to get to for repairs if they're behind drywall - is there a functional reason why the lines cannot be routed through the walls, instead of immediately exiting outside behind the inside evap unit?

Since it can be done with typical split-systems, I see no reason why it can't be done with mini-split systems. Don't worry too much about repairs--a lineset typically never causes trouble as far as leaks go.

Just make sure to run a steel bracket between the lineset and the inner wall. It will serve as a shield from nails and drill bits. Otherwise, hanging a picture somewhere down the road could get really expensive.

I had the lines of my Mitsubishi mini-split run through the walls and they exit to the exterior at the floor plate. The installer did put a plate over them to protect screwing or nailing into them.

If you have to get to them...replacing some drywall is not a big deal...but unlikely any issues with lines.

You could get creative and run the lines through a "Sleeve", PVC pipe with long radius elbows or PVC electrical conduit and seal ends weather tight with expanding foam.
