I have had the same problem. The latest baby sweater seemed to straighten out after I finished it and folded it away. Yes, otherwise, lightly press it--do not drag the iron over the sweater. Just lift the iron and place it down and then lift and place again.

At my Thursday knitting group, this was just under discussion for a very complicated sweater pattern that I would never attempt! The designer, and I can't remember who it is, experimented with making a purl stitch in the darkest color in the row above that same color in a knit stitch, randomly, around. It does keep it from rolling. In the instructions, she wrote PWYC, meaning purl when you can. Just stick in an occasional purl stitch somewhere where it won't show, but it has to be done in a place where the color matches it below, or you will get a purl stitch that shows.

I would crochet an edge around it if it would fit in with your pattern. The purl stitches are an idea I never would have thought of but it sounds like you have to plan ahead for that or almost start over.

The way they were talking, it was just here and there. They were casting on about 320 sts, I think. Maybe every 20-30 sts??? You might try experimenting on a swatch (yep, I said that dirty word!!)

Stockinette stitch will curl. It may be intentional on the part of the designer but edges on sweaters and cuffs are usually rib-knit to prevent curling and also to provide some stretch. If you don't want to start over, a crochet edge will ease the curling problem.

A picot crochet edging might look nice on the baby sweater:
*Ch 2, sl st to 2nd ch from hook, sc to edge; rep from *.
Maybe you could crochet a row or two before you start the picot edging to "anchor" the curling edge down more.
