Granite in...Small Kitchen Remodel

A few teaser pics. I plan to post a full before and after once work is completed. We are about 85% done. Plumbing the sink and DW, some electrical, crown modling and a few trim pieces here and there that had to be re-ordered and of course the backsplash.

Our Kitchen is a 10x17 room, one entry way from a combined living room/dining room. The "working" part is at one end of the rectangle, basically U-shaped with the bottom of the U 10', right hand side about 8.5 and the left about 9.5. We could not expand that in any way without interfering with being able to get through the French doors to the deck. We did manage a peninsula by moving the refrigerator down 18" and going to a near cabinet depth model.

The granite place called it English Teak but when I googled that I got mostly fine grain browns. This is gray to bluish with some tan, copper and deep red/purplish sprinkles. Lots of occlusions (Have I got that right). They show up as the elliptical spots.

Will post more as I take some more pictures.

Exquisite granite...looks great with the lovely pulls and the cabinets!! No more teasers...we want to see the whole kitchen!

Very nice! I think this granite is perfect if someone does not want wild, yet still wants the beauty of nature and to keep it interesting. It goes beautifully with your hardware.
I think it would also work well with wood tones. I bet you have now given a bunch of people something to consider ;)

I like that the "grain" runs across the countertop instead of lengthwise. That surprised me, and it's lovely.

I definitely will be posting some more photos. I took loads but wondered why they were so blah until I found a setting that made the camera assume that there was backlight in every pic. Seemed to have affected the color so I am taking more.

The cup pulls are Schaub French Farm in antique nickel. We have knobs to match. We do not have a country French inspired kitchen but were at a design center looking at all the pulls. They had everything from Top Knobs to Baldwin, etc. That's the only way to do it. Touch and feel. The knobs felt different than any of the others....smooth and substantial. The cup pulls were the same way. An almost organic smoothness.

We had a table top cut from one of the slabs since there was room. We didn't ask the cost. What could a 30" table top cost? I am embarrassed to post the price here. We ordered what is called an Italian cafe base...cast iron from tablebases.com. I originally wanted the traditional French pedestal but the DW liked this one cause it's not as solid looking. Its substantial, about 53 lbs.

Right now we are trying to get the GC in to finish up some details. He wants to come in when he has everything he needs to finish the job while we would like him in to finish up everything but the backsplash and the electrical outlets in the BS. Those details include plumbing the sink and DW, installing the stove outlet so we don't have to keep using the MW and crock pot. The DW wants to cook. The BS tile is on order and the time line is 4 weeks because this is one of those slippery slope moments when the tile that went with everything turns out to be a made to order, handmade tile. I have this mental image of a little old Italian man out in his workshop filling the molds one by one.

Anyway, thanks for the positive comments and we will certainly post more photos.
