The electric eye faucets are very unreliable at my workplace. (They are a commercial brand, not Moen, but they've used the technology even longer). They refuse to go on, they won't shut off once they've turned on, they turn on spontaneously.

It's easier, in my opinion, to find a faucet that you can turn on with your wrist, and then adjust after you've rinsed your hand off, or to use a piece of paper towel to turn it on, if your hands are very dirty.

I'm having the same debate. I wish there was more information on how well they work over time. Worst case, you could turn the motion sense off completely if it started having problems. Also, I'm not sure what Moen's warranty will provide--but seems if it isn't working correctly it should be covered by the warranty. Many public bathrooms have motion sense and it seems to be becoming more mainstream (pun intended). They seem to work well in public areas which would see quite a lot of use.

I am not convinced of this either...I think they give the impression of working if you are in and out in a public place, but I work in a couple facilities that have this and there are issues with the lavatory faucets and also with the toilets. Toilets that flush spontaneously over and over, having every toilet and urinal flush as you walk through the restroom, and toilets that will not flush at crucial times. Luckily they have an override button. If only everyone knew this.

Thanks everyone. I did end up getting the Moen. From what I've read it seems that the sensor has issues when the battery gets low so I went ahead and ordered the AC adapter so it's all electric. It should be installed next week. I'll post here if I have any issues with it.

I've had it in for a few weeks and it's groovy. The AC adapter is on backorder so we're just on battery for now and it works flawlessly. The front sensor leaves water running only while your hand is placed under the faucet. It shuts off when you move away. If you wave your hand over the top sensor it will leave the water running even if you move your hands away. It will auto shut off after a few minutes or if you wave your hand over the top sensor again. I giggle when I use it. I'm sure that will end soon :)

I've had a Moen Arbor for 6 weeks now. It took a little learning at first, but I like a lot. I've never had to consult a users manual for a faucet before this!

Is the AC adapter just a plug that will plug into a standard outlet, or is it wires that must be installed by an electrician?

No electrician required! Can plug into a standard outlet. Here is the installation video, installed by a woman with perfectly manicured nails, yeah right. My plumber installed it without any problems.

One thing in that video confuses me. Are they saying that if you want to change the temperature of the water you have to go down under the sink to the control box every time? I don't understand that part. Is the handle on the faucet itself only for decor?

It looks like you set the temperature for when you use motionsense. If you use regular controls you can change the temperature. I would think this is so that if you leave the water on hot with the regular control that someone can't burn themselves when using motionsense. Anyone with the device that can verify?

So you wouldn't be able to do the way you can with something like the Pilar, where you set the handle to the temperature and then can change it up there?

EDIT I would presume there's no flow control, then? if you use the motionsense it's full on, always?
