cotton 'denim' worsted weight yarn

I bought online some cotton crochet thread. It arrived and is way too thick to use as I had planned. It is 3 pretty pastels in Aunt Lydia's "denim" weight. I think it is more like worsted. I bought a large "spool" of yellow, and pink, and mint.

Now I am wondering if I can make baby sweaters using this cotton yarn. Has anyone here done that? Does it get soft if you launder it before giving it away? How well does it launder and work up?

It makes great baby sweaters, blankets. Washes great and if you use a fabric softener, it does soften up. I knitted a sweater from it for an adult friend and she still wears it six years later.

No problem--I really enjoyed working with it, although it doesn't knit quite as easily as wool or synthetics because it's not as slippery.

I made a hobo bag/purse with it and it's still wearing/looking great. Yes it gets softer.
