I am making a bell (2nd project) and here are directions i have a question about:

cast on 14 stitches

knit 14 first row

knit 10, purl 4 second row

repeat...etc etc

Question 1: When you put the loop on your needle to cast on, does this count as one? By the time I cast on 14 stitches, i actually had 15. I pulled it back out and counted the loop as one.

Question 2: When you are knitting and purling on the same row, it looks like a "double loop" when you start the first purl stitch. When I knitting the next row, it now looks like I have "2" places to put the needle. If I count, I now have 15 instead of 14 when you count the first purl stitch. What am I supposed to do here?

I just finished a scarf...what a laugh..LOL. I thought it was going to be so fine. It was curling so bad, I did not see a potential problem. To prevent the curling sides, I double crocheted each side to help it lay flat.

BUT...It was about 30 stitches on the end I started,and about 50 on the end! When you fold it over, it is twice as wide on one end than the other. I knit 1, purl 1 , for each row of that scarf so obviously, I thought I had more stitches to stick the needle in than what I really had.

This is why I am trying to find out what I did wrong now before I go on with this bell.
