bin pulls on large drawers?

When using bin pulls on large 3 ft drawers, do you use two, or is one in the center ok? Wouldnt it ba a pain to have to grab 2 pulls each time you open? my cabinet maker suggests one, and thinks even if you had 2 you would often just use one and it would throw things off in time.

thanks

If you're talking about those cup style bin pulls that are about 4" long, I think only one pull in the center might look lost on a 3' drawer.

Our mind's eye is conditioned to see two pulls on a long drawer (think dresser drawers) and anything less would just not look right. To my way of thinking, you either have to use one long, longish pull or you have to go with two small ones.

I can't speak to function--that is, about the things getting 'thrown off in time' (the drawer glides), but, if that did happen, then the worst case scenario would be replacing the slides sometime, maybe a long time, down the road.

I think it depends on how large your pulls are. I think a 3" pull might look out of proportion on a wide drawer. I used two - but often open the drawer just using one.
The drawers glide easily so using only one pull should not pull it out of whack - at least I hope it won't.

Hmmm - I see I took too long between reading and posting - my thoughts are exactly the same as ci_lantro.

I just looked at photos of whooooosh's kitchen. She has wide drawers with just the one pull in the center and it looks fine, so I guess it comes down to what you like and how $$ the hdwe is! And whether you're going after an understated look or wanting the pulls to make something of a statement.

I have 3' drawers with one little knob. I will be changing drawer fronts and was wondering about this same thing. The knob I have looks a little small all by its lonesome, but basically OK, so I think a 3"-4" bin pull would look fine, and I think work better. My 3' drawers are for pots, below the cooktop, and I can't see using two hands to open them.

Come to think of it, I think my mom has two knobs on her wide pot drawers, and it's kind of a pain.

I have 2 on my larger width drawers, just looked better to me. I use both hands to open the heavier drawers (pots) and only one on the lighter weight drawers (utensils). No drawbacks so far.

We have 2 cup pulls on all drawers wider than 27". The drawers open easily and I've never needed 2 hands to open any of them--good thing since I often have items in one hand when I want to put them away.

I'm happy with our single pull on our 36" drawers on the island. I really like the single pull and I believe they are 6 inch. :) Good luck!

beautiful kitchen, thanks. I think the problem is the type of pulls I am using, yours work fine but the bin pull wouldnt be as long. They come in lenghts of 3" to 10". I am planning to use 4". How would it look to buy bigger ones to center in these wide drawers? Not good, I'm thinking.

I planned for (and bought for) 2 on my 30' drawers so you can imagine my surprise when I got home to see my GC had gone a different route! Though I think it is easier to open and it hardly bothers me now, in the kitchen I'm designing for my new house I'll have 2!
