You do NOT want to disable the switch. It's there for your protection. Even though you may be smart enough not to stick your hand in while it's agitating, someone else may not expect it to continue to run and could get seriously hurt. Such as if it's at the cycle where it pauses right before it goes into spin cycle.

Also, disabling the switch could possibly void your warranty.

Many newer machines have the switch triggered by one of the lid hinges. Try removing the screws from one of the hinges, loosening it from the lid and flip it to the closed position, see if that triggers the switch.

Its only me in the house, so no chance of anyone else getting hurt, but I certainly understand the response, from a safety standpoint you have to be careful.

To each their own, but I've been able to be satisfied by simply lifting the lid and it'll give an agitation or two so I can see how it's doing. I don't think I can envision myself ever being so bored that I'd stand and watch it agitate so I would need the lid up all the time!

There is a lever under the top behind the timer. If you look over the console, you will see an hole where something fine like a clothes hanger wire will fit through. This will depress the lever and activate the switch.

The top overhangs the back of the cabinet a bit and you might be able to reach the lever from underneath too.

I've seen that video. Not to make light of the situation, but there's something odd about the story. I've stuck my hand/arm into agitating machines (several brands) many times, all the way down to the bottom of the basket, without injury.

I was puzzled by the severity of her injury as well. I stuck my hand in my old TL plenty of times while it was agitating to rebalance towels and such, and to push items down so they'd get soaked with water faster. Didn't know I was literally risking my limb to do it.

All kinds and sizes of loads, as well as running without clothes (I worked for an appliance service for several years). And probably young as age 10 (standing on a stool, but probably not quite down to the bottom at that time). I'm 46 now.
