Carrier Infinity System Cooling Issue

I just had the following system installed and I am having a few issues. The dealer is on it, but I wanted to post here just to see if anyone has any ideas as well.

Carrier Infinity Control

Carrier Infinity ICS Furnace 58MVC080

Carrier Performance Heat Pump 25HPA524H30

Coil CNPV*3017A**

My problem is that the unit is not cooling very well at all. The blower never seems to kick into high and seems to always run at medium if I had to guess. The day it was installed, it was pegged at 81 on the thermostat and never moved after running for over 8 hours. Humidity is set to 50%, but it gets it down in the mid 30's pretty easily. There is also what I would consider excessive condensation on the duct connected to the furnace, so much so that it is running down the side of the furnace and onto the floor if I do not wipe it down every few hours. A tech came back out the next day and checked everything he could think but could not find any issues other than the unit is set for 800 CFM and is only achieving 700. The other strange thing we noticed is that the condensation is only collecting on one side of the duct.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. If you need any more info, I am happy to collect it. I am able to access the installer menu's of the infinity control so I can gather information from there or change any minor settings that could help while I am waiting for the dealer. Thanks for any help in advance.

    what is your location?

what size living area are you attempting to cool?

the idea that new condenser is running continuously suggest you may not be sized correctly, have a bad refrigerant charge, incorrect Infinity control settings, a defective controller, or leaking ductwork system.

any idea what supply air temp you are getting? what has outside temp high been over the past few days?

    post back.

    tigerdunes,

I am in NE Ohio, sq footage is roughly 1300. The system was installed on thurs, and it was about 92 at the high point, so I was not too shocked after it ran for 3 hours or so with no temp change, however I left the house for another 5 or 6 hours, the sun went down and so did the outside temp, but the inside temp never moved. The next day it rained and the temp went way down into the low 70's but the cooling would not take the house below 76 and it was struggling to keep it below 77.

I am pretty sure it is sized correctly, I had 8 contractors do bids for me and they all said 2 ton was the right size. The old one they took out was 2 ton and it cooled just fine.

The tech that came the next day checked the refrigerant charge and said it was just a tad high so he took some out and got it on the money. He also replaced the infinity controller and it made no difference. He checked the temp on both sides of the coil and was getting a 20 degree drop. It would seem everything is perfect, but the blower will not kick up. I know if it did, the house would be cool.

while this specific system configuration has been discontinued, it is short on cooling BTUs for a two ton condenser even when operating correctly. see below.

    3070577 Discontinued Systems PERFORMANCE 15 PURON HP CARRIER AIR CONDITIONING 25HPA524H30 CNPV*3017A** 58MV(B,C)080-14 22800 12.50 15.00 24000

add this to the low CFMs and that lowers cooling BTUs as well.

how is inside humidity? is system running continuously?

    sorry for your trouble.

Inside humidity is great when it is running. It can easily bring it down to 35%, sometimes even lower when it is running in cooling mode. When the system is on, it does run continuously, but I have been running it on and off in cooling mode the last couple days because the weather has been sporadic.

I do see what you are saying about the lower BTU's. I would think(hope) they would have taken that into consideration. I am fairly comfortable with this contractor and I am sure they will make it right.

I am not familiar enough with the system to know exactly how it is supposed to run, but I would assume the blower should go into high during the heavy cooling times. This would at least let me know if the cooling is adequate.
