Nothing wrong with york. They have good warranty's and make good equipment.

You may want to consider a 2-stage A/C since you probably have alot of humidity and it may save you money long term.

York makes an 18 seer 2-stage A/C split system that could probably be acquired for the same price as the carriers.

York also makes less expensive brands called coleman and luxaire that are the same equipment with the same warranty.

Tigerdunes - not sure what you mean by split systems or package units. To clarify, I have a 1.5 ton for the upstairs bonus room and 5 ton for the downstairs. Downstairs is about 2600 sq ft.

What is really frustrating with buying an AC unit is the lack of available objective reviews on the different brands. Even Consumer Reports didn't give much information.
