I've had both and I prefer a large deep single bowl. Being able to easily wash roasting pans and large platters was, for me, the biggest pro. I also think a single sink looks better aesthetically. As for the double sink the only advantage it had for me was being able to separate wine glasses when washing up after a dinner party, and as a temporary place to set my recycables.

I struggled with this also. I have never had anything other than double bowl and had a hard time imagining anything else.

With a dishwasher I only wash large pots, cutting boards and the odd dish. I love the idea that anything will fit in my new 24" wide single basin. If I need to immerse spinach or something in water now I still just put it in a large bowl rather that filling the sink. It took a lot of thought about how I actually would be using the sink to decide.

The harder problem now will be to get the kids finally to put dishes in the dishwasher instead of the sink...

Single bowl Ticor 4000 (and I am just a regular housewife not a "sales person" haha) I just loved my sink.

I was in your position a little over a year ago. I like the way double bowls sort of kept the dirty separate from the clean. but I really didn't like that I did not have room to soak my baking sheets or wash large pots or pans.

I decided to go with a single bowl. And I treated myself to a Ticor TR 4000. (see link) The thing that I like the most about this sink is.., well there are lots and lots of things... but most of all the grid at the bottom of the sink allowed me to stack dirty dishes on the left, wash them, place them on the right and then rinse them without them getting dirty from stuff falling in the sink. The 2nd favorite thing is the stainless metal "drying" rack. It has holes in it not mesh, and it is fabulous for rinsing vegetables, fruit, even mussels. It is SUPER functional. I am not sure what your budget is, but it was well, well, well worth the splurge. Best of all I am 99% sure that it fits in a 36 inch sink base.

Other things I loved was that there was a built in "lip" in the sink that allowed the metal drain board (and cutting board for that matter) to rest "under" the height of the granite around the sink - very classy. Plus the sink was so big that I would stash "to-be-washed" dishes underneath the drain rack out of obvious sight and the sink was still usable. gotta love that.

My vote is for 70/30 double bowl sink. I have the Ticor S405D. Very popular sink around Gardenweb. The big sink is 19 x 21.5 x 9deep which is big enough for a full size cookie sheet flat in the bottom or my biggest frying pan (12" pan with long handle and a helper handle = 23" across). Plus, you still have a double bowl sink. The other side is 16 x 10.5 which is plenty big for my 8qt stockpot. Plus if you want to wash some dishes by hand you don't have to fill up the big sink. It comes with the grids for the bottom and the strainers.

have you thought of a low divide sink -- they work really well for large items but give flexibility if you need to multi-task with separate bowls. We have a Kohler Smart divide apron front sink and love it. Good luck!

I am all about my single bowl farm sink - would never go back to a double.

I love my sink ! 9.5 deep, about 22x33 size, 16 g stainless can't wait until it's installed with my kohler simplice faucet :) I currently have a kohler double bowl and many long handles items are tough to wash & rinse. Water drips onto the floor because i can't rinse off the length of the items. ie: large pizza pans, cookie pans, large cutting boards, large china pieces etc...
