Need Kitchen Counter advice

Hi,

I'm not a frequent poster but I really need some advice on new counter for our kitchen. We have natural maple cabinets and black appliances. Out floor is a med-dark hardwood. We also have a light grey tile backsplash.

We are for sure getting laminate, more affordable and we have young toddlers. More than likely Wilsonart HD, the new formica or Formica radiance. I want something with a little sparkle.

We are not sure what colour to get. I am think dark because of the appliances but DH want light so I thought MAYBE light with a black grain going through them.

I will try to post pics of our kitchen for you too see. Not sure how to do that yet.

If anyone has pics that would be great

I think you need to take a trip to one of the big box stores like HD or Lowe's. Pick up samples and bring them home to see what you think of them in place. Be sure to bring a variety of lights and darks, because you might be surprised by what takes your fancy. If there are ones you really like, be sure to bring samples of the actual product - most stores have them, but you might have to ask. If you don't find an actual sample of your final choices, many companies have the option of ordering samples online. Good luck!

    I agree with Suzannesls,
Get some samples play around with what you like.
My instinct says light, I know you said dark but what
you describe there are some great options with Wilson art
in colors that are lighter, medium (not white) that could
    really rock your space!!!

I have picked up some samples and have it narrowed down to about 20...LOL I should get bigger ones and maybe that will make it easier.

paulabrandy...you kitchen looks fantastic. What colour are your counters?
I am shocked that you have an undermount sink...didn't know that was possible.

I am now considering a lighter if there were darker variants in it and maybe with a dark faucet and knobs it could tie the black appliance in.

boxerpups, thanks for all of those pics. Some I really like but again non have the black appliances and all the pics I see online shoe dark counters with the dark appliances. O really like the perlato granite, the Milano Mohagany and some of the unnamed ones you posted.

My DH favorite right now is a Formica called Golden Masscarello I am favouring from Formica Corbeau Montana or Mineral Jet in Radiance finish

from Wilsonart he favours Crystaliine Onyx and I am liking Alpine Passage, Raven Gemstone and Bella Noche

You really need samples as they vary a ton from seeing it online or on tiny chips. Most companies will send you them for free.
I really liked one called Manhattan, by Nevamar.... It had gray and white and looked nothing in person like online. I added that in for the heck of it and it was so much nicer in my hand than in a photo.

The color we chose is "Bronze Eclipse"

I installed Corbeau Montana. Be aware that there is a lot of deep green in this pattern--that's one of the reasons I chose it, but if you're not a fan, then make sure you get a big sample from Formica before making a final decision. I'd recommend doing that in any case--the 180FX patterns don't have as small of a repeat as regular laminate, so you should invest in some large samples of them when choosing. They have several new patterns as well--they look awesome.

Thanks for all of your responses. I have ordered some larger samples to get a better look.

It's funny because now seeing a better picture of the Corbeau Montana, I'm pretty sure it's out of the running. Not as dark as the small chip or pictures make it seem, also had no idea that there was that much green running through it.Funny enough I will think more about the Antique Mascarello as I really like the pics from the link that was posted.
