Warming Drawer Placement

I also posted this on the appliance forum so sorry if this is a repeat for some. I am planning on putting my warming drawer directly under the counter (counter will likely be granite). Wondering if anyone else has this setup and if so how do you like it? Thanks Jackie

Mine's in the center drawer in the bank right beside my cooktop, and for me, that placement is near-perfect.

I went with the middle drawer rather than the top drawer just because that's how my cabinetry line worked and so I could keep the top drawer for utensils. I use my WD mainly to warm plates, but also as a work surface for plating foods from cooktop onto dinner plates. For work-surface use, the top-drawer location would actually be better since there would be less bending. But to me, that one difference wouldn't have been worth expensive cabinet re-works or losing drawer space I really needed.

IMO, the other critical location componant is how many steps away from your cooktop the WD is. If it's more than 2-3, IMO that's too far to be really useful for more than storage.

Ours is going under the counter in the cabinet next to our cooktop. That way I can be standing in front of the cooktop and just reach over and put an item in w/o having to step away first. As long as it's easily accessed from the appliance you'll usually be taking things from & putting them in the WD and not too far from the eating area(s) you should be fine.

As to under counter vs in a stack, I think the under counter is more useful, at least for me. If it were in the oven stack it might not get used as much since it wouldn't be convenient to the cooktop & MW...which is where most of my items to be warmed will be coming from.

    HTH!

Thank you all for the input. The WD will actually be next to the wall ovens and across the room from the cooktop (I guess about 9 ft) I think it will still work for me there because I doubt I will use it on a nightly basis. Thanks again.

My WD will be next to the range and under a utensil drawer, for all the reasons stated above.

After much debating, I finally decided it needed to be close to the prep area, with a good "landing" space (which eliminated under the single wall oven). I wanted to be able to "plate" the food directly into the WD (or at least I think I do!). Originally, I was thinking more about the convenience of retrieving the food, rather than ease of placing the food into the WD.

If it's across the room from your cooktop, I doubt you'll use it much at all. The only thing it'll be useful for is holding meals warm or perhaps, proofing bread, both of which can also be done in an oven, though not quite as well. Overall though, it will not be substantially more useful than the ovens you'll already have for anything...

If it were my budget, I'd scrap the WD and use the money elsewhere.

sweeby - We entertain a lot and my thinking is I would use it to keep food warm while still having the ovens available. I still have time to change my layout so I will take a look and see if there is any way I can move things around to put the WD closer to the cooktop.
