Instructions needed at laundry mat!!

As some of you know, we bought an Electrolux Wave Touch washer dryer set, which on the first load had a tub full of rubber shavings. Needless to say the tub was putting a deep groove into the rubber seal, so have another on order which will take 7-10 days to get. SO, today i had to find a laundry mat. Took my 4 loads and put them into 4 front loaders. Put in my very small amount of HE detergent. When it started washing, i went into a panic!! There were so many suds that you couldn't even see the clothes!! The same in the other washers i was using. Had to run them 3 times and still had a LOT of soap in them. Finally had to bring them home and put them in the bath tub to rinse and wring out. Thank God for washers as my hands are raw from wringing jeans and stuff out. Anyway, asked the laundry attendant why there were no signs about the amount of detergent to use, as i saw that EVERYBODY'S washer was filled with soap! She didn't seem intrested at all. There were people who took their clothes after the final rinse was white with soap and they were just putting them in the dryer, no big deal! I can only imagine their skin problems, not to mention the dingy whites. I thought if they were caught out in a rain storm, they would suds up!!! You can tell that i haven't been to the laundry mat in 15-20 years and i hope it is my last trip!!

I had to go to the laundramat after we sold our house because the power company hadn't run the lines from the road yet onto our property. It was awful!

I thought the washers were clean and my new sheets had grease spots on them. Not only that, it ended up costing me $40 to do a week's worth of clothes. The dryers were a huge money pit.

We decided to go ahead and put a new motor in my 5 year old Duet washer, so I cancelled my top loader purchase. I am cringing that it'll totally go out before the motor gets here next Wednesday. I told my husband I'd buy the $250 Roper top loader to use in the meantime, if it dies before repair, before I'd go to the laundramat again.

I am with you all the way on that!!! I have a roper dryer that we have had for 12 years, it is still running very well. When my washer burned up we saw the washer and dryers that were stacked and thought "what a great idea". As the room with hook ups is so small, having them stacked has allowed me to have a tall slim cabinet beside them and even a laundry cart with a table on top where i can fold right out of the dryer!! I love it. Before i had to lug them to the bedroom and fold them there, this makes it much easier. I will go to my mom's before i ever go to a laundry mat again YUCK!!

Only thing I ever take to the laundromat is a thick king-sized quilt that absolutely won't fit in our FL at home. And for that I run an empty load with a big dose of Charlie's Soap and Lysol disinfectant (small brown bottle) in the machine just to get the nastiness out before I go anywhere near it.

    ~That~ does the trick!!

Laundromats - curse words. We've been living in a little trailer in the woods (New Mexico) during the summers for 2 years while building a new house. The first year I went to the laundromat ONCE and totally had the creeps, plus it cost $12 for our loads.

So I went to a used appliance store, bought a nice Kitchenaid washer for $200, and my husband "installed" it outside the trailer sitting on a wooden pallet. My forest laundry room was just great, I strung rope through the trees for a clothesline. Between laundry days we wrapped the washer in a tarp, secured with bungee cords. We winterized the machine with RV antifreeze and the next spring cleaned one mouse nest out of the motor and fired the washer right up. I would do ANYTHING to avoid laundromats.

GO Dianne47!!! Now that sounds like something I would do too to avoid a laundry matt. I had to use one when Isabel came through and knocked out my power, if I lose power again in a storm, I will either run my washer on a generator, or wash clothes in the bath tub and hang them out. I can boil hot water on my gas stove when there is no electricity..

As my DH always says to me...I can go down to the river and beat the clothes on a rock and it won't cost me a thing. Plus he pointed out the antique wash board i have hanging on the wall where my washer is. I would get the dang thing down and find a bucket before going to another laundrymat. Plus i told him that he just hopes to get lucky that the river would be up that day...then he could pay someone to do his laundry with the insurance money!!!

You guys are too much! I've had the best laugh I've had in a while tonight.

After my laundymat experience, we actually DID fire up a generator to use the washer. When we got to our property, with all our belongings on a truck, darkness setting in, and there was no power even started into our property, I lost it. We were told it was "all set".

We had purchased a small inexpensive new single wide to live in while we build our house. Though the mobile home dealer did a great job getting it set up on the property for us, got the septic system in, and the well drilled, they didn't get the power taken care of. Here we were, 95 degrees out, no lights, no air conditioning, no running water, no way to flush a toilet, and our house sold, etc.

We unloaded the generator off the truck and fired her up. When "bubba" at the power company had fishing to do, and didn't care about scheduling a power pole, we called the president of the power company. My husband said we'd be setting up a tent in his front yard until he did something about the attitude of his employees and got our power in. Thank goodness this fella had a sense of humor, got us all in a conference call, kicked some butt, and our power was in within 3 days. No small feat out in the sticks.

I'd go down to my pond before I'd go in a nasty laundrymat again.
