What size pulls to use?

I want to get stainless steel bar pulls for my kitchen cabinets. I plan to use bar pulls on both the drawers and doors. They seem to come in a lot of different sizes. Is there a rule of thumb on how to pick the sizes? Do I try to scale the pull to each drawer of use mostly the same size on everything?

These are my sizes:

Lowers

4 Drawer-15" wide

Lazy Susan Corner

33" Sink base (2 pull outs instead of hinged doors)

Integrated dishwasher panel (needs handle)

21" 3 drawer bank

12" drawer on top, door on bottom

36" 3 drawer bank

Uppers:

Message Cabinet

24" 2 door

L shaped Corner (piano type hinge in middle so no blind corner)

2-16" uppers

My thought was I would run the drawer pulls horizontal them the door pulls vertical but then I've seen some kitchens with everything horizontal and they look rather cool. I kind of like the more modern than traditional. I kind of like the look of the ones that are 8". Would that work on everything?

Here are the ones I was considering:

Any suggestions on the best sizing?

We have similar pulls, all placed horizontally as well. We used pulls that were approximately 3/4 of the length it's corresponding door or drawer. Since we have lots of different door and drawer sizes we have several different size pulls. My personal opinion is that a larger pull gives a more modern look where a smaller pull gives a bit more of a traditional look.

There isn't a single rule, but a lot of different ones, plus you can create your own. So long as you have a rule that makes sense it'll look good.

    Examples of rules:

    • All 7" pulls.

    • All pulls centered with 4" of drawer(door) open on either side.

    • All vertical pulls 3" and all horizontal pulls 12"

    • All pulls 12" except on drawers more than 24" wide, with two 6" pulls

The most important thing is making sure that your lazy susan door's pull doesn't bang into stuff or prevent the door from opening the whole way. Same on the L upper. If there's no good way to do it, a low profile single knob, or a groove for opening without hardware might be the best solution, letting one of your rules be "not including corner".

If you want to use the same pulls on everything, including the DW, I think the 8" or 12" pull will work well. The 8" would be better if you want two on the big drawers, and the 12" would work better if you want one centered there, but either should work either way. Yes, I think the 8" will go with everything.

We are at the same stage. The last major decision for us is the bar pulls. We've been looking at pictures and trying to figure out how to do this. We know we are going vertical for the wall cabinets and horizontal with the drawers and pull outs. We will probably do 3/4 length on the verticals. Our challenge is we have shaker style cabinets and we want to make sure they have some symmetry with the inlaid part of the cabinets. However, for all the different sizes of drawers we will need to get different size pulls. You should really check out http://www.contempolivinginc.com/cabinethandle1.html. This site was recommended by a GWer here and they have the best price and selection by far. We called them last night and their return policy is reasonable so we may order some different sizes and try them. One additional dilemma for us is we thought a 3/8" diameter would look nicer in our small kitchen, but they are very hard to find and rather expensive, so we will be going with the standard 1/2 inch. Anybody else out there with pictures would be greatly appreciated
