We have some older Mieles and absolutely love them. If we had to buy new ones, I am 99.9% sure we would buy Mieles.

I do not have experience with the other brands.

Unfortunately people can only tell you about their experiences with the units they have purchased.

My first priority was noise. Since you are wanting double units, it sounds like your first priority will be size. I believe, Electrolux has that honor. I have an Electrolux touch wall oven, and it works great. However, I have Samsung washer/dryer units and I love them also.

You will need to go out and basically check them out. Decide on some models and then come back and ask opinions of owners of the units.

This forum is FULL of information of experiences with different brands, opinions, both accurate and misinformed and comments. It's impossible to put everything about every brand and model into one thread. Look through them and you'll get a ton of information and a good start to your education.

Have you determined your priorities? Wants? Budget? Space or other limitations? Without some of these basic criteria considered nobody can give an intelligent suggestion. What's your experience with machines? Do you know how to use a front loader?

I have Miele 1215 and 1415, but only because space was an issue. If I had space I would not have these machines even if I was loaded with $$$. They are amazing and top of the line, but finicky in many ways. Leveling for vibration, electrical rewiring for the 220 and more. Just this past week a control board in the washer fried. Without an extended warrantee it would cost $500! Parts are not on hand and we are washer-less for two weeks. The other Euro machines have these same issues with parts and are much less reliable.

Any way, the repair man was here and he said hands down he would go with a Whirlpool front loader. He says it is the same basic under the hood design for years and they only change the outside. It is proven and super reliable. He rarely sees them in his work. It is what he has at home. He said GE was the worst.

This guy has repaired machines from a regular Joe to the houses of the uber rich and famous for years. You can read all our posts about this and that with 1000 disparate opinions, but I'd put my bet on the guy who knows from real experience with all of them. On the same line of thinking, find a really good dealer no matter what you get. You are buying not just a machine, but a relationship with a dealer that will (or should) be there when you need them. My dealer has everything from Miele to low cost top loaders. Good luck!

I am looking for new large front load washer & dryer also. My Maytags are 20 years old now and on their last leg. However, I was told Maytags are not that good any more. I looked at Whirlpool, LG, and Samsung. Best Buy had the best deals last week but I still am researching as there doesn't seem to be a brand that stands out any more. Good Housekeeping stands behind Whrilpool but I have read bad things about them and not sure they are what they are cracked up to be. The Samsung is supposed to be quiet which is a nice feature. I am looking for the large machines so I can finally do bedspreads and large blankets and not have to run to the laundrymatt. The new machines (front loaders) have an odor problem which I don't like so I am still researching. I could not figure out why people were spending so much money on Tide but I guess they have a formula to help with the odor so that is another factor. I've gotten by with the inexpensive brands and my clothes come out very clean with my old top loader. The only thing I would be careful about is buying an electric dryer. I bought one a very long time ago and sold it for $25 just to get it out of the house because it was breaking the bank. I would not take an electric dryer if they gave it to me for free. The other feature I like on the new models is the drawers under the machines and you can bargain for them from what I can tell.

I would not buy a front loader. I bought the maytag about 6 yr ago. I got the mold problem everyone talks about. Got rid of it and spend another $1000 on a Duet whirlpool washer (kept the maytag dryer). After a few months I started getting the mold smell again. I went to Lowes and they let me exchange it for another washer. I'm an idiot, I got the Bosch this time. I am now dealing with that smell again. It's not worth it, get a top loader.
I will say though if you insist on buying a front loader. The maytag had the best spin cycle. It was hard to tell if it was wet or dry. The Bosch has the best hot temp cycle. The duet had nothing good. I got the Bosch because of the hot temp. I thought it would help prevent the mold, oh well, live and learn.

Look for a model with a "Tub Clean" cycle,
in which it uses more water to reach the Tub/Door Gasket.

Some of the LG's have it.

In some locations, electric heat is cheaper than gas heat.

In other locations, gas may not be available.

I have LG FLs and am very happy with them. The size and installation fit my needs as well as the large capacity.

Since I got them, I have also started helping wash marching band uniforms and doing laundry for my mom. These machines are so easy to use and so quiet when running, the capacity is so large (I need a larger laundry basket now) and the cycles give such a range of options that it's allowed me to take on the added loads and still feel like laundry is easier.

I had a Whirlpool before that and a Kenmore made by Whirlpool as my first washer. The first one was donated to a flooded out family after a storm so we could rationalize a larger capacity and more efficient washer when the older ones had been good. The newer one ran 7-1/2 years without an issue, and my problem there was not so much the machine as the fact that the Whirlpool extended warranty required that you use the A&E techs they sent. I had had A&E before, but this time, everyone they sent seemed totally incompetent. They had one guy who barely spoke English (not really sure what he understood either) and he was supposed to come in the morning and finally showed up well past 7 pm. Then they started making up stuff on the warranty terms, admitted my washer serial number was manufactured in a certain year but that didn't match what they had on my warranty, so they couldn't go any further....

I'm very happy with my LGs, but if you get Whirlpool, don't get their extended warranty.
