i had a client who used it in her home. we painted a large rectangle of magnetic paint over her existing wall paint (about 3 coats). it was frustrating, because its magnetic strength was quite weak. we tried all kinds of magnets - only the lightweight magnetic poetry would work, and they couldn't hold anything up! so her daughter just uses it to write sentences and poetry, but it doesn't do what i had hoped it would :( here's a photo of it with magnetic words arranged like a christmas tree!

My scrabble magnets (pictured) are used on the fridge, so no dramas there.

I have also heard that magnetic paint isn't very strong.

magnetic paint does not work well. Even with multiple coats. Get some galvanized sheet metal from local hardware store (make sure it is magnetic), paint with desired color of paint mixed with fine grout, and frame as desired. Voila, magnetic chalkboard. Ours is pink, of course!

my experience is NO. Is not strong enough even after four coats. I was very disappointed

We just put it up as well in our "Lego Studio" aka toy room. I would agree with the earlier statements. However - if you get strong magnets that might help a little too. We happened to have some from my husband's job (they were used for medical reasons - to be placed temporarily on the body to treat pain, I think). I'm just not sure where you would purchase strong magnets in the retail world though

What a timely post. I was planning on picking up magnetic paint this week. Thanks, think I will go get a piece of galvanized steel. Why do you mix the paint with grout?

I used it in a boy's room at a client's house. I only found one magnet type that worked even after 4 coats of magnetic paint. Bought the magnets from the Container Store. They are tiny square extra strong magnets. If the kids are really young this is not an option (swallowing hazard).

Mix the paint with grout if you want to use it as a chalkboard. I found it on the internet, it works fabulously. That way, you can have whatever color chalkboard you desire.

Oh okay. I was going to use it as just a magnetic board.
