Replacing Mom's 38 yr old Rheem - Need input

My mothers 38 year old furnace finally died. I will be buying her a new system A/C and hear and wanted some input.

She lives in Ark.

Jun- Aug . Ave Hi temps 90s with high humidity

Dec - Feb Ave low temps 35 range.

My mother is cold natured and gas heat is a must. For her A/C needs she has been using window units. I know doesn't make sense..however she has agreed to remove those with a new system. Trying to weigh the plus and minues of getting a system with the tax credit. I am told this one will meet the qualifications. Any suggestions/comments are welcomed.

38 year old furnace means 38 year old ductwork. for $1,400 more id say do it all. good price, good equipment! only if it includes both installation and equipment. and what is the sq. footage of the home? If its around 1200 sq. ft. then your good, anything above id reconsider the tonnage of the unit.

Cansada7,

Thanks for the reply. Price includes equipment and installation, plus installing a new duct to room that was added on. House is around 1500 Sqft.

You are right about the ducts...contractor will install unit and try to fix the ducts as best as possible. If not, we could fix those later. Trying to limit initial costs.

Gotta take care of mom first, just replaced my roof and I need to buy a new upstairs unit as well.

Only way to know is get a 2nd bid and see what size & price they come up with.

What you were quoted appears to qualify with a 4TXCB004 coil. Didn't come up with a CXA which is uncased. Ask for a rating number. This is 3445275.

80K seems like a lot of furnace for a mild climate. Wonder if 60K might be better. Same with size of A/C though you do get hot. Poor insulation? Lot of windows?
