Whirlpool Duet

I was considering the Whirlpool washer dryer duet pair from Costco. It has the 13" bottom drawer. Is this bottom drawer worth it. Does the height make the above the appliance area too high for cabinets per say? The pair is $1799 on sale now. Sound good?

Also, in reading consumer reports, it appears the front loaders are not necessarily "better" then top loaders. Any comments?

which duet? what floor will the pair be on?

See the link, they will be set onto a tile floor (that was intalled on top of my basement concrete below grade slab.

I am reading in consumers, that the Frigidaire Gallery line is a best buy for about $600 each? I think this could be a better bet?

Here is a link that might be useful: Here is the link....

We have the Duet 9600 with pedestals...no problems and we would purchase again...we did buy the extended warranty through Lowes for only $140 for 4 extra years...just in case!

I have the Duet 9200 and I am not happy after having bad suds problems and Tangling BRAIDING of anything that have arms & legs together so bad they come out in a ball and they are so wrinkled I have to iron everything.
I think I have figured out the suds issue is from using anything that is HE including bleach, DONT USE IT!!! I am using regular Gain 1/2-1 Tbls, I find is working alot better and the clothes are clean and dont come out sounding crackly and the rinse water is not full of suds.

I have the Duet 9200 and I love it. I have it sitting on the drawer, and I like that very much--it is a great storage place for all my laundry supplies.

I use Charlie's Soap and always hit the extra rinse button, so I haven't had any problems with sudsing or odor. Once a month, I run the "clean washer" cycle. I had been buying the Affresh tablets, but I just tried the Whirlout that Home Depot sells for its jacuzzi bathtubs. I read on one of these loops that the LG repairment have been taught to use that. You put 4 Tablespoons directly into the (empty) basket and run the "clean washer" cycle.

Occasionally, I have some tangled items, but it's not a big problem for me. This washer does a much better job than my old TL--and it makes much less noise than the TL during the spin cycle, even though it is on a wood frame floor over a crawl space. Be sure to level it carefully--I think that makes a difference.

Now, Whirlpool makes the Duet and the Duet Sport, which I believe is smaller. I thought Costco carried the Sport--which is fine, but be sure you know what you are getting so you'll be happy.

Costco is selling the Whirlpool Duet Sport, which is cheaper (and made in Mexico) compared to their high-end Duet HT 9200/9400/9600 models.

My impression is that the Duet Sport's quality and washing performance is a big notch down from the other Duets. Plus $1799 sounds a bit steep for the Duet Sport, and I personally don't think the pedestals are worth the extra price. If you're going to spring close to $2000 on a new washer/dryer pair you might as well just try to find a good price on a high-end Duet. I bought a Duet 9400 for only $999 at a local appliance store earlier this year, and have been very happy with its washing performance.

I have the 9400 washer, not on a pedestal and I love it. Mine is on the first floor. I use charlie's soap. Unless you are really big on matching washer and dryer, I would put the money into the washer and get a good 7cf dryer that is much less. I Still have my whirlpool gold from 8 years ago, not a sexy as the nice new duet dryer, but it works great.
