I think you've done all you can given the space you have to work with. Perhaps a desk underneath the bed depending on how comfortable your kids are working in a more confined space.

Hi---it's difficult to give you advice based on only this one photo. If you could upload a few more taken at different angles so I would know where doors, closet, windows, etc. are situated that would be most helpful. I'm sure you'll get much more advice after you repost. :)

The room size is similar to some college dormitory rooms. Those often have a pair of loft beds with desk and storage area underneath. Try a Google image search on "loft bed dorm room".

Try Pottery Barn Teen, they have a lot of neat ideas for bed and storage needs.

might sound odd but how much wall space is gained if you use the bed as the separation line in the room and have a desk/dresser combination on either side of it. One person woud be by the window though and the other would need a really good study light. Beds take up an enormous amount of usable wall space. Could put a bookcase up against each pillow end so they both have a more secure feeling.

I suggest looking up bunk bed ideas...there are some really great, unique ways to have custom bunks so that each child has their own space. Especially with a wide age difference...this is a plus!

If I were 17 or 18 there's not a chance in France I would want to climb up that top bunk. Could you do something like this? At least it would force them to keep the floor clear! [houzz=]

Hello! From what it looks like to me---I think you have enough room for 2 twin beds and possibly 2 desks/chairs... I'm sending you an attachment of a dorm room-look at all the photos in the link so you can see what this designer did with very limited space. You could create symmetry on the wall with the window by centering the drapery rod with the room, not the window and extending it such as she has done. You have a couple of options here--- #1 you could do the layout as shown in the pics and place the desk between the beds---or--- Option #2 you place the heads of the beds on either of the side walls, table between, and add a desk and chair at the foot of each bed (as shown in link). Maybe you could fit a trundle on that 6'5" plus wall to the left of the entry, or tucked in that corner and running lengthwise on the 8'6" wall. Then bookcases and a desk could be built in to fill the window wall something like this inspiration pic.

BTW, are there no closets in the room? Do you need furniture for the boys to store their clothes and boy stuff?

Take the fold down table idea to the next level. The boys would have to find a place for the books/backpacks during the night but during the day the table is unhooked from the wall and opened up. In this way, they could actually be in their own twin bed and have the fold down table in the middle.

Usually, such a table has long stabilizer bar on the mounted side and one table leg which unfolds and sets the table up. Then can be made quite sturdy if the leg has some heft to it. A decent carpenter would love to build such a table for them. Ask your sons for some feedback, that would make them feel more involved in the process.

Like Natalie's DKOR interiors picture only your boys need two single beds. Curtain in middle. Desk along the opposite wall. If you can afford to buy beds with storage under - do so. Otherwise, plastic boxes with lids for under beds would work. If possible you can raise a desk surface to bar height and use two cool bar stools to sit on for homework.
b) If they need more storage: two filing cabinets (2 drawers each) and an old door on top makes a great work area. But should not be overloaded. One good desk lamp in center. two folding chairs with pads.
How is it going? Are any ideas making sense? What is the dark thing in the first picture on the left? Is it staying or can it go? Are you using any closet organizers inside the closet?

Switch rooms with the kids, give them the big room since they need two beds and you only need one.
