Kitchen stove venting

I'm totally gutting my 1960's kitchen.

I've seen, in the magazines, a cook-top 'vent' apparatus that raises and lowers as needed.

Instead of the vent hood coming down from the ceiling, the vent/fan is placed behind the cook-top, down into the countertop, and when it's not in use, it lays flush with the counter-top.

When the vent is needed, a button is pushed, and the vent/fan raises up to about 8 inches high, directly behind the burners, and supposedly sucks out the smoke, etc...

Has anyone out there used one of these? Does it work well? What are your thoughts?

Thanks! Emily
