Keeping counters clear

We are about 2 weeks out & our kitchen is finally done. I am wanting to avoid cluttering up my counters & looking for ideas for this. I'm already getting rid of my knife block & getting a knife drawer insert. I found this site too late or I would have had my contractor build an under counter paper towel holder. My next issue is the old toaster oven. I use it to toast waffles, English muffins, etc. I would like to either place it in the pantry where there is an outlet, or should I just use my new advantium or wolf oven? It is an ugly old toaster oven so I could even get rid of it! What do you suggest?

I had an Advantium, and I loved it!! I would use it!!

Never got into the toaster oven myself, so I cannot address that.

I have a toaster that I keep in one of my bottom drawers. I just lift it out and toast what I need to toast...let it cool... shake it out over the sink... and put it away. We've been doing this going on 2 years (only use it maybe once a week) and it still looks brand new. The only things that live on my counter are DH's coffee maker, my cutting board, and salt/pepper mills.

I've always been fond of the under(upper) cabinet paper towel hangers. They are quite convenient if your sink has an upper nearby.

Try the new ovens first for toaster-oven stuff. If they don't do the trick, go with the old one in the pantry. Just be sure things are properly positioned so you don't get a fire in there!

I planned, planned, planned, and then planned again where all the usual counter detritus would go. I've never had or seen the appeal of a toaster oven, and they take up too much counter real estate also. I use a plain toaster that I keep in my corner susan and pull out just for use. Then a quick shake, and maybe a wipe, and back in the susan it goes. The only appliances that live on my counter are my KA mixer and my Gaggia espresso machine.

If I were you, I'd try to use the advantium for your usual T.O. fare (except for toast) for a while to see how it goes. If you can get used to using that instead, then you could sell/give away your TO for a regular slotted toaster that you can store in a drawer or other cab.

As for paper towels, I keep those in my cleanup sink base and then pull them out only when necessary for cooking. I find we use much less of them when a simple washable cloth towel would do if they aren't so accessible. I live in a green state. :)

During my pursuit to hide counter clutter, I stuck my paper towels in my lazy Susan. Just standing in there. I realized I've just been kicking it open with my foot, grabbing a towel, and kicking it closed again. (Perhaps I need a toe kick.)

I've decided to try to rig a towel holder thing inside the door of the lazy Susan. Vertically. Love it.

I was going to take out a drawer in my trash pull-out. For some reason, the Quaker Maid drawer is 1/2 the depth of a regular drawer! There's even a block that prevents me from putting in a deeper one. I thought that might be perfect for an undercounter type thing. But then, I realized how I was actually using my towels.

I'd also try your Advantium. OTOH, I miss a toaster oven. If I could put it into a cabinet or something, I'd have another.

My MIL has a paper towel holder attached inside her sink base door. Along with hooks to hold large utensils and measuring cups/spoons.

I use the toaster oven almost daily, my husband never touches it. He wanted to get rid of it when we remodeled the kitchen and you could hear me howling for miles. The toaster oven was probably 16+ years old and looked like it had been thru the wars. Seriously, I doubt even GoodWill would want it, but it still worked fine.

The compromise/solution was that I bought a new one (Breville) with the stainless steel finish.

Anyone know where you can find a paper towel holder for the inside of the sink door? I like that idea.

In your shoes, I'd use the Advantium and keep something in the pantry for toasting.

That said, I just bought a Breville and have used it at least once every day. I love this thing and it has a place of pride on my counter :) I do have it in an area that was a junk zone before. The oven gives this area an everyday purpose.
