recommendations for sunroom sofa

I had hoped to reupholster the present settee in the room but the springs and frame are compromised and the expense is too high for the piece. I would love suggestions on what shape and color sofa you might use in this room. It is a play room in disguise. During the day it is a primary play area for a one and six year old but at night I like to pretend their are no children in the house and have an adult space. However, since I do have kids during the day I do not care to spend a small fortune on the piece. I hope to spend less than 2500 on the sofa. The room is tiny at 9by 12 so I think less than 86 inches is needed. I thought maybe a chesterfield in grey velvet might be nice but my DH is not sold yet. Here is the room and I hope to keep everything but the settee. Thanks.

No suggestions but such a pretty room. We have a sunroom in our new house (even smaller, though), and I always feel like a society lady in it. Mine now has a dollhouse in it, but like you said, at night I pretend it is just my room! Granted, it is 11 p.m. when that happens, so I call it the moonroom. :)

Can't wait to see what you pick.

Thanks Anele. My sunroom adjoins my living room kind of like yours:).

I would love this pink velvet but not sure it works with the navy chairs and aqua walls and rug. The adjoining room has dark grey walls with aqua velvet chair and sofa.

Here is another option I was considering, but it is only online and I am not sure about comfort and am unwilling to buy a sofa without a test run, but if there is one similar in stores near me, ct I would love to try it out:)

this last one is very comfortable and has lots of lovely fabric choices. It is from thomasville.

I love all of your choices. I think the colors would all work well, but I am a little concerned about how stuffed the pink one is for that room, and how high the back is of the gray one. Are you worried about how light the pink one is re:stains? While my kids don' t eat on our white sofas, just overall grime shows up, and then I wash the slipcovers.

What are your fabric options for the third? I see that working best because it seems to have the lowest overall profile, but I do love them all.

Since this is a sunroom, should I assume it gets a lot of sun? My first thought was leather that is slightly distressed but it would probably need to be a deep color, and if the room gets a lot of sun that might damage it or (worst case) make it hot like black vinyl car seats in the sun ;)

For the 3 you posted, I like the lines of the last one but do not like the wooden arms. I can see a kid running and hitting their head on those points somehow. I'd go for an upholstered arm (something soft).

I really like the gray one your posted because of the high back, soft arms, and the way the arms don't take up a lot of space - they are sleek & grown up looking. It looks like a great sofa to sit & read on, as opposed to lounging and lolling about.

The pink sofa pic is just for the color I got the pic from houzz. I am ok with light colors. I have white in my basement rec room and light velvet in my livingroom which is really a tv room too. I find dark fabrics stains as much as light:) so I usually go with what my heart likes not my senses:).

The thomasville had so many options for fabric. I was really drawn to a turquoise velvet but think it is too bold for the room. The floor sample was in a lovely soft gold silk-like fabric that I actually thought might work well in the room but was not sure how it would jibe with the adjoining LR. They also had a light grey velvet that I think would work.
Here is a pic from christmas of the adjoining livingroom for reference. There are french doors to the sunroom but we usually use it as an open space.

What a beautiful, beautiful room. Honestly, I think you will choose far more wisely than whatever opinion I may offer, so I will defer to your eyes!

re: "I usually go with what my heart likes not my senses:)." I need to follow this. I try to go w/ my senses and make too many mistakes, and end up w/what I don't even really like.

Thanks again Anele but I could really use help I am stumped when it comes this room:(.

Engineerchick, love the name! I love the look of the grey wingback sofa, I call it my alice in wonderland choice, but am afraid to order a sofa of the internet, reviews were mixed on its comfort.

I just got back from some local furniture haunts and I think a true velvet chesterfield is out of budget and they are usually quite long. I found an afordable knockoff. It comes standard in charcoal, pearl or chocolate velvet. the price is right(actually well below budget) and it was very comfy but the arms are to short to be a true chesterfield style. I would go with charcoal in this if I were to get it.

I also went back to thomasville and liked their hutton sofa this is standard in a goldish tan fabric. Kind of modern lines so I do not know if it would be to much with more traditional furniture that is now in the room.

I really like the pseudo chesterfield.. it looks so comfy and I'd imagine it to stand up to kids and use. My opinion is swayed by the fact that I've been looking for a velvet sofa that wasn't too formal for the last two months. Bonus that it is well below budget-- as long as you are comfortable with the quality.

I love the almost-a-Chesterfield. It looks so much more usable than a normal chesterfield!

    How about something like this?

    It comes in a few sizes: 95", 88", 80".

On the Thomasville site I like the Molly sofa with legs. It has three little buttons along the back and looks really demure. The last picture shows it with a welding in a deeper shade, it looks much more interesting that way. I would paste a pic but can't seem to grab one on the iPad, darn it.

Here is a link that might be useful: Curved sofa

I really like the look of the Ballard Griffin sofa. It's small scaled. Plus, the nailhead and casters add a nice touch. So many fabrics to choose from or you can COM.

    I like the hutton too.

Oh I love the curved sofa and the griffin! Thank you so much for helping! Has anyone ever ordered seating without trying it first? It would be a huge leap of faith for me, but the images give me more to look for when shopping in actual stores. I looked at the Molly and it was comfy and well priced but I ruled it out because the one in the store was skirted and I never thought to ask the sales person to see it with legs. It looks so different. I opt for skirtless so I can easily look for toys that have fallen under my furniture but I wonder if my rooms are too leggy that way:).

Funkyart, I loved the shape of the one you were considering a few weeks ago!

Yeah, I did too. Unfortunately, he wasn't willing to move enough on the price to make me happy. I have been watching for good vintage sofas to recover.. but havent found the perfect one as yet. I may try him again if it's still available in a month.. the lines are simple enough that I'd take it on as a project to do myself.

PLEASE stick with your gut-- don't buy a sofa you haven't seen and tried in person. I bought a sofa with a slightly different design than the one I saw in the showroom and it is not and never was comfortable! The little difference in cushion design and depth made a huge difference in how you sit in it-- and the sofa arms aren't cushioned enough to lean against comfortably. I didnt see the differences when I compared the catalog photo with what was on the showroom floor but they resulted in huge differences in comfort. It was a very expensive mistake. :(

I like the Griffen a lot. I think that a small scale sofa is key on that room.

I agree with Funky-- best to get something you can try.

Do you have Macy's or Crate & Barrel near you? They have some nice smallish sofas that are very comfy. Our son & day/law have a microfiber smallish sofa from Macy's that has a tufted back...they got it in ivory & even with a young child, it still looks great & cleans up well, too. I find it super comfy. I was in Crate & Barrel today & am lusting after a peacock sofa with nailhead trim that I saw. It sat low & was really comfy...came in about 6 colors.

I agree with others who said that you should avoid getting something you haven't sat in. I even had a bad experience once with a really nice sofa that we'd seen in a small local furniture store & liked. The one that they made for us was horrible...the pitch of it was all off...it was made in North Carolina.

So now, I won't even do custom ordering....get it either off the floor, if in good condition, or someplace where it can be returned, even if we have to pay a re-stocking fee. I also ordered an Ethan Allen sofa & loveseat several years ago after one of their designers came out, and when we got it I HATED it!! The scale for our room was all off, and none of our side tables worked with it. Kept it for some time & then finally sold it. Twice burned, I guess!

Funky art I hope that sofa is meant to be yours! If not another will find you!

I think I am too afraid to order without a test drive but I like having the online sofas to show the sales people what I like:).

Lizzy, I looked at the cloe, I think that was the name, at macy's it was very comfy the only worry I had was the floor model's velvet was ill fitting on the arms. I thought it might be from all the people who sit on it but how is your son's holding up? I love the peacock color in create and barrel! I vowed never to have a pillow back again, with little ones I was constantly "making the sofa" but I am tempted. I will have to go and see it for it is lovely!

This weekend I am going to look at some furniture stores in the fairfield county area of CT.I am sure there will be nothing I like in my budget but it will be fun!

Thanks for all the suggestions they are helping alot!
