The only advice I have is that if you're planning to use them for "task lighting", like reading, I don't think it will work, because the light will be directed down at the bedside table, and not toward the bed. I think it'll look great, though!

Thats an interesting point you bing up there dmlove. I never thought of that. Although our current side table lamps are those cheap IKEA frosted rectangular lights that sit right on the table and are open on top. My wife seems to read OK with them (I guess I should verify this...). The pendants I had in mind would be lightly frosted. I was thinking the Hampton Bay Architect if I can get it in Canada.

This type of lighting was used many, many years ago and served the purpose well. I would be sure that the switching by the bed is arm level so as not to have to reach too far to turn the lights on and off. Also, I would suggest that you place each light on its own dimmer so that it can be controlled for reading or when put on in the middle of the night.

So it seems like it's not a crazy idea. I like the dimmer idea. Thanks. I'm going to pursue this further. I was thinking that in the future if we get tired of them, we could always replace them with a recessed can and shine that on the wall at some art or something over the bed.
