Quick CL yea/nay, please...

I found this last night in my eternal searches under "teak" and "walnut"...what do you all think? Bear in mind we have cats, so I try to find furniture items that are easily reupholsterable in case of ripping...and don't have solid vertical walls of upholstery.

Thoughts please? I'm liking the architectural kind of lines to it..

Here is a link that might be useful: I could clean up the walnut...

They say it is solid. It looks clean. It is a good price. Go for it.

I like the piece, it looks comfy, just needs a little cleaning, and I like the pun. I vote yes.

Thanks, les and dilly dally, two very respected posters weighing in with a yes means I will go for it! (the pun was fun too -- nice to get a sense of the person from whom you are buying something)

I called him and he will have it on hold for me, not respond to other folks, until I can get there after DD's first-ever band recital this afternoon :)

I was thinking that the color sounds a lot like the Pantone color for 2009...such a trend-follower I am :)

That looks like a gorgeous piece! I like the sounds of the seller, too :) If it's comfy for you & in as good a shape as they say, I would say grab it!

I think it's great! $40 sounds like a good deal for something so solid and well designed. You could have lots of fun changing the fabric from time to time. Good luck!

    I think it's a great chair.

Love the lines, the wood and the fact that the back isn't too high.

This is a fantastic chair that in my opinion would work anywhere in any decor. Great price from someone with what appears to be a great personality; a definite "yea."

For me...........No. But do go see it. Sometimes I buy things that my family thinks are strange.

excellent find, my dear. good luck, and tell us how it works out!

It looks to me like it wouldn't be tough to clean up the wood, or to reupholster when and if you wish. Where do you intend to put it? Will you be changing the upholstery?

Good find and at a good price. It looks like a really nice chair that could go almost anywhere.

So far we have mostly yeses, one no -- we'll have to see it and decide. I did happen to buy a bottle of Old English for dark woods last week -- did I have a premonition? :)

There are two places that are in contention for it, the family room and the living room. Right now, the family room is looking better, since the living room already will have some Danish walnut in it, and the lines aren't exactly the same. The family room only has one sectional in it, with metal supports. This could bring some of the walnut into another area, which would be nice. I *may* have to reupholster it immediately unless his camera is *really* off and it's a doable color.

I did pass up this headboard today -- took all my might to do it, but I made a fabric-covered headboard and it's perfectly good, so we need to use money on things that *aren't* redundant!

Great chair! Something my parents would have loved --

    I'm in the yay club:)

    Smiles:)

I hope you bought those chairs!

Late to the party, but YES from me. Love the lines it has.

You know, maybe I'm just a peasant, but I actually like your chair better than that headboard, Henredon/FLW or no. I opened the ad, saw the tag line, was prepared to gasp.... and just didn't. Go figure.

But I'd love to see a pic of your headboard, she hinted shamelessly. In all your available free time.

We're home, the *four* of us, me, DH, DD and new DC :)

DD's recital was great, everyone played so well, I laughed, I cried...I miss music! So glad she's bringing it back into the house.

And then we went and got the chair. It's actually faded to a thoroughably doable gold now, and it looks nice sitting in our family room. Which I don't want to photo yet because of the *horrid* built-in entertainment thing that the PO put in that we haven't gotten around to changing, but one thing at a time, yes? But DH really likes it, it looks right at home -- we love it. The seller said that he posted 12 items yesterday and only got responses on this one -- and he got *several* responses (we were second in line to a person from the next state up whose ride fell through -- I respect his holding it for her and I'm thankful he held it for me until after the recital).

The back cushions *snap* on to two of the rails, or whatever you'd call them (I'm blanking). I'm going over it with some Old English and seeing where I need to do more, and the front joints do need to be reinforced a bit...DH and I are figuring out what we need to do. It won't fall apart, but it creaks.

walkin, you peasant you :) I can see why you have that take, actually -- I had to keep thinking that the headboard wasn't photographed well, because I take the Henredon/FLW names to be worth something...but what do I know.

Our headboard is really just a big upholstered rectangle, but the fabric is what makes it, for us. It's a velour that's got several stops and starts in each line that have the cumulative effect of making it look like wood. That probably makes no sense. If I get really brazen sometime, I'll take a shot of our headboard/bed. But I'd have to be out of my mind on chai :)

Rats, I missed it! The ad is down.

I'm glad you got it and are happy with it!

Kudos to babyfly for a great recital. What instrument does she play?

I missed it, can't wait to see photo's.

Hey, uxorial -- yes, she's here with us. The chair, that is :) (and the daughter :)) Re instrument: because DD took to recorder like a burrowing owl to a prairie (had to change it out a bit :)), we'd been looking for an easily-accessible good flute teacher for a long time, with no luck. All the recommended teachers were on the East Side. Finally another mom at cross-country with whom I walked while the kids were working out mentioned that her kids were taking instruments and band from someone really near us! Even better, the rates are truly affordable, I think because she deals with a lot of hsers who are scrimping and grinding by to be able to keep one parent home. But her teaching is *fabulous*, just wonderful, and the band experience -- well, I've never seen DD so beaming before. Not at track, not at Village Home (the resource center) -- she *loves* it! And she's really fantastic at it too, I have to say -- she's progressing much faster than I did in piano, which if I modestly say so, is saying something :). The other families we know heard her and could not believe that DD had started only in December, so it's not just me :). It truly sounds like she's been playing for a long time. Her tone is gorgeous, she's very dextrous and has great lungs (from track?).

The other cool thing about the concert was discovering what true musicians my friends' kids are! We know two families from XC, so we know their athletic abilities, WOW, one of the boys is truly an artist. He played great jazz piano in an ensemble, and then played just soul-wrenching baroque flute in a flute quartet. And oboe in the band. A musician, an athlete, an intelligent kind person who can talk to adults...he's a few years older than DD...NO, don't go there! :) But it was really wonderful to hear such beautiful sounds come out of all the kids playing together. I'm so thankful that that mom happened to mention what she did--something DD's wanted to do for so long has finally opened up for her and she's running flat out with it.

brutuses, you know, I wrote about my reservations wrt photographing the new girl ensconced in her position, but I just might post pics of the Horrid Entertainment Hole the PO's put in, just to get ideas for how to remedy it. I HATE it. It's so cruddy looking it brings down the rest of the room. I need to have more eyes helping me think out what to do with it. Maybe I'll go dust it and neaten up a bit and let you all see the worst part of our house. Maybe...ugh...

Wow! She started playing in December??? That's beyond fantastic! I bet she'd be just as good at playing the Native American flutes my husband has made. They're similar to recorders, but are tuned differently I think.

I used to play recorder when I was a teenager! (Well, who didn't back then?)

You should get a digital recorder so you can record her recitals. I recommend the Zoom H2, which I've been using to record my chorus rehearsals.

Oh dear, uxorial...she's heard Native American flute playing before (at the Museum of the Warm Springs Reservation) and was completely mesmerized (this was just after she'd started recorder). You're tempting me highly...would your DH let her play one sometime?

And yes, I used to say that recorder was the universal musical solvent :) -- it's really easy to get basically, but she took it SO far so fast it was weird. And she's never been a piano girl, go figure -- she likes wind instruments and will make one out of almost anything LOL

We *did* record the band recital yesterday -- haven't looked at it yet, as I'm a bit afraid I did something horribly wrong LOL...but I'm almost as excited to have the recordings of the flute quartet pieces as I am to have DD's first outing. Flutes playing together, esp. with renaissance harmonies, just do something for me unlike anything else.

Yes, the NA flute is very mesmerizing! We first heard it in a gift shop along Oregon Coast. Not long after that, my husband started making wooden flutes. He would definitely let her play one! You would get a kick out of the way our dog howls along!

Speaking of making a flute out of anything, one of DH's flutes, which he didn't make, is a piece of PVC! Seriously! Sounds pretty good, too!

So you made a video of the recital? I record just the audio of my rehearsals, and I've taken short videos with my digital camera. The Zoom H2 was kind of daunting to learn (DH picked it out, so it's geeky), and I still mess up now and then. In fact, just last week, I botched some of the recordings at rehearsal. :-( I doubt that I'd be able to operate a digital video camera "under pressure."

It sounds like you have the same reaction to flute music that I do to barbershop harmony. Some of the quartets I've heard literally give me goosebumps!
