New Use for Old Object

I hit my favorite antique store for the second time this month during their annual January Sale. I found an old box, divided into six sections and thought it was perfect for our cooking utensils. I cleaned it with a wet sponge, then sprayed throughly with commercial strength 409 and let dry.

I knew it was from England, but not much else. Internet searching showed me it was from a brewery in Somerset, England, 1890s. I love finding new uses for old objects.

Wow - and I thought I liked my cheap ceramic utensil crock, but that box is FANTASTIC! It has so much character!

Brilliant! The box is what I see, not the utensils.

Thanks for finding that and cleaning it for me. It's going to look perfect in my kitchen.

Thank you! I knew there would be other TKOers out there who would enjoy seeing it. lol

I bought several other things with character this month. I started a thread on Decorating if anyone is interested.

Oh my - Now you have me on a quest! I was just putting my utensils away this morning & thinking I needed to find something with compartments - I'm inspired, thank you! :)

How much do we love that? Green with envy that you found it and we didn't!

That's a cool box! I love all the English antiques I've seen.

Simply beautiful (oops, drool just hit the keyboard!).

Thanks! I had wanted to change out my yellow porcelain planter/pot for 3 years.

How cool is that! I would love to find something like that.

Aww, when I see that, it makes me wonder why I went "contemporary American" style in my kitchen. How beautiful that box is, and I like to imagine all it has seen and all the people who have touched it in the last 100+ years. And I love the salt and pepper shakers too. Oh well, I did get a bunch of my Mom's 1960's stuff when she moved to Florida. Those things look cool too, and is a "new use for old objects" (and it reminds me of my Mom's kitchen as I remember it as a young girl).

Allison, your home is so beautiful. Your kitchen was one of my early inspiration photos and it's such a treat to see glimpses of your home through the other thread. What a great eye you have!

    Thank you!

Shannonplus2, my parents still have some of their furniture bought in the late 1950s that I grew up with. It's in the air conditioned attic storage room. I was just thinking about some of the pieces last night and how DD2 and/or DS may enjoy them later on. They still have their first anniversary bedroom suite in a guest room. 50s/60s stuff is very cool. I bet you love the memories they bring.

    Thank you, Eliz.
