Paint my kitchen, please...

DH and I have not found common ground when it comes to paint color in our current house. We knew when we moved in it had to be painted. Now it is 20 months and counting and we still have white walls. I went to the paint store and today I put a few samples on the wall to try and force the issue. I was certain BM Hepplewhite Ivory was the color that was going to work for us. But now I'm not so sure. It seems more saturated and too gold for our floors. Because the family room and dining room flow off the kitchen I need to find a color that will work in all three areas. The family room furniture is red with gold. The carpet in there is beige?

Sorry, I guess I should include a pic of the fireplace. I don't have a very good one but maybe you can see the browns and greys in this if you can overlook all the other stuff. I am working on getting built-in on either side of the fireplace and an updated TV but that's another thread lol

I see a silvery gray. It would go with the FP stone and the counter top. I love grays with white cabs.

I think a gold would be beautiful behind those couches. Here's a mock-up of Benjamin Moore Cork (color is not exact):

Leahwalker, thanks for the mock up. My first inclination was gold but DH thinks it is too much with the wood floors since they are on the golden side. But I must say the rooms look much warmer and cozier!
Jerseygirl, I like the idea of silver and I know someone here lives in the pacific northwest like I do and has beautiful greys in their home- I can't remember who that is. I have shied away from the greys because the sky is so grey here and I'm afraid of the gloom factor. Even with those big windows light is an issue. But maybe if I found just the right color it would be ok.

I love the BM Cork color and I think if you use that for paint you should add some red accents in your kitchen, maybe with some black too. Because I love black. :-)

I think the grey/silver may not complement you living room furniture although it would look nice with the fireplace.

I would paint it a warm color. The room would be very stark with silver/gray, JMHO but I do not agree that the silver gray would be anti-furniture if I am seeing the color correctly as a burgundy, which is beautiful with silver/gray, but I still think a warm color is in order. Heck, I might even go with the color of your sofa.

I think whenicit hit the nail on the head. Grey would look great with your cabs/counters and fireplace, but not so much with the furniture. Living in the Pac NW I completely understand what you mean about gray. Know what color I have in my kitchen, and will be painting my great room/kitchen in my new house? Laura Ashley gold #3. And I have black, khaki and red furniture/accents! :-)

Well, I must be drunk or blind because I am seeing burgundy in the furniture which is very lovely with silvery gray but I think silvery gray is too cold and stark for your kitchen unless you went with something near black. I do think a rich gold or red would be beautiful.

Just doodling around a bit. You could do some really pretty color juxtapositions with your architecture.

The space below the fridge upper cab -- you should be able to get a filler piece for that, which I think looks a bit better. Might even think about a full cab or retrofitting some taller doors.

The first pic is a warm putty with a touch of green in it. I'm color-blinded right now .. I was working with greens, grays, and sandy colors. Maybe even a spa-blue (far wall) and fresh green combo.

I found this link at BM Decor while I was searching for BM #984 Stone Hearth. I have seen this color in person and it is a great color to go with stone. However in the article they used Wheeling Neutral on all interior walls with Linen White trim. Scroll all the way and you will see how they have pale and medium shades of purple with it. I think Wheeling Neutral could definately work in your space with your furnishings and bring warmth to your kitchen. A perfect backdrop!

Here is a link that might be useful: BM

I've been gone all day and came home to find Squirrel's beautiful work and kmcg85's great link. What a nice surprise. I like the warm putty and whatever that light green is Squirrel. And thanks for the suggestions on the kitchen. I'd like to rework a lot of it. It seems cold and sort of too contemporary for the rest of the house. I'd like to do it a little like renofans beautiful kitchen. I want to put in a big range on the wall on the far side of the island opposite the current cook top and the redo the island. That oven I have now is barely big enough for a cookie sheet. I'd really like different countertops too. But before I put too much $$$ into it I need to see where this economy is heading. And FWIW my family room furniture was purchased for our last house and went beautifully with the woodwork. In this house I probably would have picked something different because of that river rock and limestone. Nan

You're welcome :) I like those soft colors too. Interesting, you don't really want contemporary. !

Forgot to mention that I changed the ceiling to a warm color in a lot of the pics.

Yes, I love the ceiling, cabinet doors and new rug too!

    I like the greens!

If that were my kitchen I would do a very dark brown. Dark chocolate brown. I love your kitchen. good luck.
