One of the iron arms of my chandelier broke at it's base. The arm is hollow and contains wiring for the light at the end of the arm. Does anyone have suggestions for fixing this?

I was thinking that I could find something to fit inside of the arm that I could then glue/JD weld to the base. After that I would slip the arm over the splint and then glue/weld the arm. Does it sounds like I am on the right track? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for your help - I am in serious trouble over this one!
