Help! Tablecloth Emergency

I am having a dinner party this Saturday and at first it was for 8 guests. Now some friends are coming from out of town and I need to seat 10. But that means I need to expand my oval table to 138 x 60 which means I need a tablecloth around 84 x 162 and I don't have one and have been unable to find one ready made. Does anyone know of any place I can get one right away? Either online or department store? A rectangle would be ok- but I need that size, and oh yes- not white. HELP!

TIA,

Jillypie

Why don't you just go to a fabric store and get fabric and hem it? As long as you want a rectangle, it shouldn't be that hard, or perhaps they know someone who could do it for you. There are custom sites that will make cloths, but all the ones I looked at required a couple of weeks for you to get the order.

The other thing would be to buy two standard size rectangular cloths and over lap them to get the size you need. Once the whole table is set, no one will notice.

    Jillie,
Check the fabric stores. I know they used to sell tablecloth fabric. From what I remember it is 60" wide, so all you would have to do is hem the ends - either my hand or machine. It is very easy to do!! I know they used to sell some of the same fabric that was in ready-mades. If not, just get some nice 60" fabric. Very easy.

Have you tried Horchow? I don't know whether you can get it on time, but you could call.

Here is a link that might be useful: Horchow table linens

Do you have any party rental places nearby? That's my first choice for entertaining supplies. They even clean everything for you.

how about putting 2 together ; I've done that before, I overlapped where they met in a neat fold. The width you need will be hard to find though, you might have to settle for a lesser drop. Is your table really 60 inches wide ?

I often use fabric but dont hem. I use pinking sheers around the edges - I have had many compliments on my unusual tablecoths. No one ever knows they are just fabric.

To get the width if your table is really 60 inches wide, use a darker solid color flat bedsheet. Two of them overlapped and folded nicely at center will get the all the length you would ever need.

Thanks All. Great ideas, but yes, my table really is 60" wide. It's an oval and that is the widest point.
Giz- party rentals-now that's a great idea! I called and I can rent a rectangle- 90 x 156-so that should work,. I am not handy so sewing probably wouldn't work, but I am going to try and solve this in the future with a person who will make them for me.

Actually, your tablecloth should overhang your table by 10-15" on all sides. ("The Art of the Table" by Suzanne von Drachenfels c. 2000, Simon&Schuster).

I would see nothing wrong with using 2 tablecloths and overlapping them, but make sure the overlap doesn't occur in a place that will cause plates or stemware to wobble!

I also think the idea of renting one is perfectly BRILLIANT! man, problem solved. And you know they'll have the right size or something really close.

If you are going to have tablecloths made for your table, be certain to have a "hush cloth" made to go under them, too. :)
