Progress update...Am I on the right track here?

Recently I requested suggestions to help me improve the look of our great room/dining room in our new house. The feedback I received was so helpful.

Here is what I have done based on the suggestions:

1)pulled back sectional toward door and moved rug foward

2)put up stationary drapery panels above sectional and placed them at the same height as the top of the tv alcove

3)curtains in dining room

4)larger vertical artwork above fireplace to replace the clock that was too small there.

As I mentioned before, I am planning on purchasing a tall tv console shortly so please disregard the way that left side of the room looks with the extra table and teeny tiny lamp. Also, I intend to paint this space with a color that is not the current peach toned color.

Am I on the right track here?? I do not know how to decorate the dining room table-- any thoughts or images to share? Do I need a third stationary drapery panel in the middle of the windows near sectional? And lastly, does the metal scroll above fireplace look ok? Should I hang vertical picture instead? Appreciate any feedback as always. Im very grateful for the thoughtful suggestions I received earlier. PS- the spot next to fireplace (where potted plant is) is usually occupied by a large and hideously ugly dog crate that I cant eliminate (but cant bear to put in the photo, sheepish grin here)

Looks really nice. I like the metal piece you have over the fireplace, I wouldn't change it. I love the curtain panel fabric. I would add a third panel between the two windows behind the couch, it does look a little bare there.

I think it looks great - have you thought about doing a large piece of art work where the clock is on the right hand wall? It looks like it could use a splash or two of color to me?

I think it is looking good. I like the idea of a third panel in the center of the front window. have you considered putting a chair in the "corner" of the living area near the fireplace? I think it would help bring the fireplace back into the living area and would keep you from having a hallway of sorts between the two areas. That is a large room!

Nice room. Agree with idea of chair to left of FP. Small size though. Also for dining room table decor, keep it low so not to interfere with chandelier.

Lovely room---I like the idea of the 3rd panel on the window. I love your tall ceilings. Great room paint color, please, what is the color name.

Like the idea of adding a middle panel. Also looks like the sofa can go another inch or two toward the door and the rug can go all the way to the FP wall. Typically an area rug in placed just under front legs or all the way under the sofa. Half-way, when there's more room in the opposite direction, is not as pleasing.

I agree with the middle panel but I also think the rod should go all the way across. to relate the two windows together. I know they are fixed panels, but they should at least Look like functional drapery.

I agree with Pal, but I'll go further. What's wrong with having the panels actually close? There's something about stationary panels that don't look right to me. I know the concept is a new fad, but it's one that really stands out in a room, but not in a good way.

With a room that large, having full drapes help keep out heat and cold. At night having closed drapes makes a home cozy. Especially in a large room.

Yes, agree with another panel between the windows. Also the need for a nice club chair and ottoman to the left (in the photo) of the fireplace---perhaps in a livelier print? The overall effect is quite dark. The current setup puts too much emphasis on that lone plant, which is too small to do the job assigned to it--- e.g. To anchor that side of the living area. If you dont want another chair, I would suggest a different kind of palm in a nice pot about a third taller or even twice as tall as the current one. Then a smaller but bushier and rounder plant, for a total of three in that space. On the whole it is looking good!

Agree with the curtain, rug and sofa comments.

I like the iron scroll, but I would hang it a little higher. There is still a lot of wall above it.

Have you tried switching your plants? The smaller one looks a little lonely there and I'm wondering if the taller one would give more room definition while the smaller one could still fill the corner. The larger one looks a little cramped to me.

So far I think you're right on track! It looks really nice and pulled together.

W/o reading the other comments (I'm so easily influenced):

I think that ths scroll work piece above the fireplace is nice but could be better. The area seems a little 'light-weight' so I thought of 2 options:

1: A heavier picture w/ in subued colors w/ a beautiful hint of apple green would look wonderful.

    or

2: Raise the scroll work a bit and if the fireplace ledge is wide enough add a row of granny smith apples on it.

I think a 3rd drapery panel would take it to the next level of layering which would be great.

All in all you've doen a really great job!

    After reading the other comments:

Def. agree w/ adding a chair to bring the fireplace back into the area, adding it in a fun print or color is very magazine worthy as suggested by ksw.

    Def. one long rod.

    Very nice room!

I don't think you need a third panel behind the sofa, I just think you need a rod that goes all the way across. And I think your drapes are slightly too short. Is there a way to make them hang about 1 to 2 inches lower? They should almost touch the floor.

I like the iron rod above the fireplace.

Your room looks beautiful so far. I also would suggest a chair near the fireplace. You could consider putting a beautiful sideboard where the plant is. I also much prefer the look of a rod all the way across the windows. I find the small rods on the outside of the windows to look odd, but that might just be my personal bias. Overall your room looks very lovely and put together.

Until you can get a chair near the fireplace, I think a grouping of plants would look very nice there. The one plant looks a little lonely. :)

And I don't think you need an extra panel, but I think one single, substantial curtain rod placed just a tad bit lower would have more "oomph" in such a large room. KWIM? My personal preference is for simple hardware, but in this room, I think you need something heavier.

Your room is just lovely, and is looking much more inviting!

    Good luck.

You've made a great start. You've gone from a cavernous room with your eye wondering all over the place to a room where you can still enjoy the open airiness of it but your eye is more settled on the bottom half.

(I won't be posting pics of my DR because we did what you did on the far windows - 2 panels on short rods on a high ceiling. I like the look. We didn't need full curtains for privacy but wanted to soften the room a bit so that is the direction that our designer suggested.)

I like the scroll above the fireplace. As far as decorating your table, I know nothing about table art. I tend to put fresh cut flowers on the table and call it done.

    Wow, it's looking great.

I would push the couch back a little more. Looks like you have a few more inches before the door. And pull rug out even more.

I agree with one longer curtain rod to treat the window as a whole, and yes to another panel in the middle. I see nothing wrong with stationary panels especially since you have blinds already.

I like the scroll above the fireplace.

Is there another place you can put the essential dog crate? I agree a chair to the left of the fireplace would add a lot, but I understand the need for the crate.

What color are you thinking of painting?

I understand about the dog crate, but what about putting a bookshelf in behind it? Your room is empty of personal touches.

I actually like the idea of a chair there, with a bookcase behind it.

If you wanted to have the curtains touch the floor as a previous poster suggested, you could buy some curtain ring clips. They would probably add just enough extra length.
