I tore mine out and the carpenter said it burned great.... Have you thought about just painting it? If we hadn't removed it, I would have put a coat of primer/paint on it to lighten the space.

Tearing it out isn't an option... concrete block behind a lot of it, and it IS the wall for 5 wall sections.

I'm trying to maintain the originality of the house, so painting isn't an option on these walls either. Guess I'll just have to keep experimenting.

Deck cleaner by Behr doesn't work. It never foamed up as stipulated on the directions, and it left the four panels I tried it on darker. Somebody has to know SOMETHING!!

I'll keep experimenting, posting, looking. 8-) Someday I'm gonna find a remedy!!

So, this post is an older one, and stripping products have come a long way. I recently started stripping our 72 year old knotty pine kitchen cabinets. Over the years, they had been varnished/shellacked many times; very orange, very hard to strip. I resorted to using Easy-Off oven cleaner. You need to work in small areas at a time; don't let it sit for long or it will darken the wood. Easy-Off is cheaper and faster than the stripper I tried. I strongly suggest you try a test area to see how the Easy-Off will react to your finish and wood. Nothing is guaranteed, but maybe this will help someone else.
