Electric to gas lamp conversion

Has anyone converted an exterior electric fixture to an open flame nat. Gas fixture? I can get an all metal electric fixture MUCH cheaper than a gas one along with a burner and valve and customize the mounting. Are there any issues with doing this? I would guess I would also need to add ventilation at the top and bottom of it that is somewhat sheltered from rain. I know it won't be the same quality of a copper fixture but I can deal with that. I want to know about the ability to do this and any roadblocks.
