Starting Week 3...

Well, we're two weeks into our minor kitchen remodel (that's like saying minor surgery - it's minor if its happening to someone else). After the initial flurry of demo, things slowed down last week with the drywallers doing their work.

This morning, the cabinet maker showed up - on time!! - with the new oven cabinet, a new deeper upper cabinet to hold the microwave, the SubZero enclosure, and panels, and drawers that are going to form the riser for our island. I'll have new pics up later today or tomorrow.

There are two things making us a bit nervous. The drywall texture doesn't appear to be a great match with the exisitng texture. The GC tells us that its "never perfect, but this is a 90-95% match." We let him know that we're trusting his judgement, but that once its painted - which he says will make it look better - we're going to be somewhat picky. He doesn't seem overly concerned, but that's his style.

The other thing is the wood color on the new cabinets - they're lightly stained red oak. We had him do some samples that matched the color we were looking for quite well. Some of the new work he brought in this morning looked to be a little too light. Some of that difference is the difference between the solid oak doors, and the veneered panels. He says it will darken up, and he can adjust the color if we need it. I do trust him, so we'll see how it goes.
