Partial Kitchen Remodel

Hello,

We are purchsing a new house and the kitchen cabinets are just awful. The house is a very traditional brick ranch built in 1967. The original material is burch and the doors and drawers are all flat front. However the previous owner painted the veneer a bright red, and left the doors and drawer fronts the original medium wood stain high glass birch. The floors are a medium to light hardwood, the countertops and backsplash are off white with grey flecks. The kitchen is large and LShaped with a double oven in a brick wall across from the range. The appliances are black and fairly new so I would prefer not to update those.

Right now there is a very outdated wallpaper border around the tops of the cabinets, I would like to take that down and paint a coordinating color.

I was kind of processing the idea to repaint the red veneer, a matte black, and then order new cabinet doors and drawer fronts in a blonde paneled wood, and have black handles. And paint around the top where the border is, but I have no idea how this would actually look and I cant find any pictures of kitchens like this either.

Does anyone have any great ideas? I have an open mind.
