Ceiling tape cracking????

My house is 130 yrs old. There is a two story addition made up of cinderblock walls that is approx 36yrs old. We are in a deep freeze in Canada

In the fall we had a new shingle/flat roof put on the house.

In the last couple of days I have noticed in the upstairs bedroom, the ceiling tape is dried out and split in quite a few different places. The ceiling cracks only seem to be on one side of the room. You can also see the outlines of the different sections of drywall. There is no water marks or dripping that I can see. I have not been able to get up in the attic yet to take a look.

My wife painted this room with latex paint about 6 months ago. There was no cleaning of walls and ceiling done. Not sure if the previous paint was oil or latex. There is no peeling of paint.

I believe the cause of this cracking tape to be moisture. Im not sure where it is coming in. I have a few theories.

1, roof is leaking, but why is there no water or water marks any where.

2, The water in the latex paint has caused the old tape to dry and crack over the winter.

3, House has settled more. Ground is clay, but the house has been here for years.

4, Could be structural, I hope not.....

5, The ceiling in not seperating at walls, But the room is quite cool.

Any ideas to narrow this issue down would be great.

Thanks in advance

Dave
