I think there was a post on yesterday with a pull-out upper cabinet that might solve your problem. Try a search on pull out or corner cabinet and see if you find it.

If your flanking cabinets are corner angled cabinets then you will need a spacer between the cabinet and the hood. If they are normal cabinets you shouldn't have any problems. If you look at my pictures on my home page, you can see the cabinet on the right of my range hood is flush up against the hood but the angled cabinet on the left needed a spacer in order to open.

Thanks! I did look at your pictures just now. My flanking cabinets will not be corner cabs, but I was trying to have a 30 - 36" cabinet on each side. In that scenario, the doors nearest the hood would not be able to open fully. I've called my cabinet rep and warned him to have some solutions for me tomorrow. I do like the pull out cab from the first reply. I just don't see how I could safely store dishes there, which is what I need the space for.

I wish there could be a hood that wasn't so deep. I think they are so clunky looking.

Not sure you have the same set up but we have a 36" cabinet on either side of our hood which is also 36". The installers angled the crown molding just a little differently to make sure the cabinet doors would open sufficiently. We have had no problems at all. I like the way they changed the molding to accomodate this. HTH!!
