Need help with kitchen design

I'm asking for your help designing my kitchen. I have a sketch of the tentative floor plan (still in the design stage). At first, I thought I wanted a kitchen that was semi-separated from the living area, but now I'm not so sure. Thinking the open concept might be better for me. Then I would be able to enjoy the fireplace and TV while I am in the kitchen.

The contraints are that I will have 3 windows over the sink, and I want the sink centered on that wall that faces the front of the property. I will have a free-standing range and FD refrigerator. An island with seating for 3 people is also an option. The rest I will leave up to you guys to help me with. I'm not a gourmet cook or much of a designer, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't figure out how to post the pictures on here, but I can post the link. Any help with be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Now, some questions:

    • This is a new-build, correct?

What is the distance b/w the left wall and the triple window? (30"??)
How wide are the windows? (6'7"??)
What is the distance b/w the windows and the point in which the "straight" wall ends and the angled wall begins? (30"??)
How wide is the "hallway" b/w the kitchen and the DR? (36"??)
Could you please tell us about your family? Family composition? Age ranges?
How do you plan to use your kitchen?
How do you plan to use your island? Meals? Snacks? Homework/School Projects/Science Fair projects? Crafts? Family baking? Buffets? Etc.

Have you had a chance to read the "Read Me" thread? It has a "Layout Help" topic that describes the information we need to know about you and your family so we can better help you design a kitchen that suits your family.

BTW...you're probably not getting follow-ups automatically emailed to you even though you checked the box requesting them. This is because you do not have the email option turned on in your profile.

For more information, including how to turn on the email option, see the "Getting Emails Sent To You...3-step Process" topic in the "Read Me" thread.

So the small option would be an l shape with an 11 foot arm and a 12 foot arm. That would be a small kitchen, adequate for casual feeding of a couple, a little tight for holidays.

But you are optimally designed to steal space from the LR or DR.

I'm thinking steal space from the LR, because
    1) it preserves the line of the hallway between the K and DR, and
    2) the DR is not oversized at 10x10, depending on what you do with it, and
    3) you could put a mini-peninsula next to the front door at an angle, and get landing space for the front door.
How do you feel about moving the big sofa closer to the fireplace to steal space from LR for K? Of course it depends on how many people you are feeding.

As to the plan overall (can't resist adding my two cents)(presuming there will be windows in the bedrooms and access to the washer dryer)I do like it, but I wonder if you need desk space for a computer. Where do you sit and surf gardenweb?

    Here are some ideas...

All separate the Prep & Cooking Zones from the Cleanup Zone and all use the island as your Prep Zone. They also all show a standard-depth refrigerator recessed into the "big closet". (Standard-depth not only usually hold more, but they're also less expensive.)

Each one has slightly different ideas/options. In most cases, they can be "mixed & matched".

Thank you so much for your input! You're right, I wasn't getting the email notifications, and I'll read the instructions and get back later tonight. I have more questions, but I'm on my way to work for now.
