End tables...need help deciding.

I've been trying decorate my living room for months and nothing ever gets done because I can't seem to make up my mind about anything. Right now I am trying to decide on end tables for my love seat. Here is the current arrangement. I was unable to take a straight on shot because of the light from the window. If it would be helpful I will try again tonight to get a picture of that entire side of the room.

The lamps and end tables that are there now are "left overs" from other rooms but it is definitely wrought iron overload and I can't wait to replace both.

Here are two tables I found online today. One is more traditional and I think it will probably go with the rest of my furniture. The other is kind of offbeat and I find myself strangely drawn to it but I'm also afraid that it might just come off looking odd. My tastes tend to be eclectic but sometimes I just lose my way and eclectic drifts into confused.

I would love to hear your thoughts. If you have other suggestions I would love to hear them as well.

Table #1

Table #2

I am determined I am going to make a decision and get some thing ordered this weekend so please give me your best advice.

Thanks everyone.

Are you replacing or adding to what you show in the picture? I like #1. It reminds me of my pie crust table my MIL handed down to me from her MIL...She always hated it. I LOVE it.

I like what you currently have. Can you show us the rest of the room maybe? :)

I really like table #1. Can you tell me who the manufacturer is?

You have so much wood going on already - and it's very pretty - but I think the wrought iron table adds a nice, airy touch to the space. I like table #1, but the more I look at #2, the more I like it as well. Is #2 all wood, or is that metal that I'm seeing on the base? I like the idea of something with a metal - or part metal - base here. At least I think I do ... would help to see the rest of the room. :-)

I, too, would love to see a few wider shots?

I agree that the iron lamp and iron table are too much together.

I am just wondering why the seating arrangement is so spread apart, and the rug isn't shared by the seating pieces? Other pix could help.

I do like the first table you posted, but it seems better suited to a single chair side table. The second table doesn't speak to me - but again, seems small to be used beside a couch or loveseat.

Sorry for the slow response. I couldn't take a wide shot until the sun went down.Sconway, The table is made by Uttermost. The name is "Ericson Traditional Bistro Table" .Auntjen table #2 does have metal insets. I think that is why I found it so interesting.

Here are a couple of pictures of the room from the front foyer.

First, I noticed that all your tables are round. You might want to make one of the tables a square one. The current wood table (computer on it) might be the square one and then have the two tables next to the sofa round. Also, I would probably make the two round tables be different styles. I would keep one of the metal/glass tables and add a different round one - table #1 or the one you currently have with the metal lamp on it. Add a different lamp for the metal/glass table. IMHO.

I love the room. It is warm and inviting. The wood and stone are great.

I like both tables, so I'm no help.

I think your leaning towards a more modern less traditional look with the tables your considering......?

Thanks sconway. I wondered if I didn't have one too many round tables. Table number #1 is about 6 inches taller than the current tables. Do end table need to be the same height even thought they don't match. I agree that I need to switch out the lamps. Any suggestions there?

IMO, since the window seems to frame the love seat and the tables, I would keep them the same height unless you plan to add one of those lamps that are tall fixtures (with or without built-in table).

Do you think the current tables are too low. I've noticed it is not as convenient to set drinks on the tables because they set lower than the arms of the loveseat.

If everyone thinks that the current end tables fit well with everything else in the room, maybe I need to be focused on just replacing the lamps. I originally ordered the lamps which are sitting on the fireplace mantle to use with the end tables. I really liked the way they looked but my family complained because they were so wide you couldn't see the TV from the love seat. I've purchased 3 sets of lamps for the room since we moved here last summer and none of them have really worked out the way I had hoped. I think that is why I decided to tackle the end table issue. I need some instant gratification LOL.

I could even rearrange the furniture if it makes the room work better. I have two small club chairs on the opposite side of the room. If I switched them with the love seat and put one larger table between would that look better? Again, any advice is welcome.

Not having seen the other side of the room with the club chairs, I am inclined to suggest that you switch them with the loveseat. The loveseat looks too small in front of the window, and so the tables feel like you are trying to fill space on either end. Plus I am not totally sure that the style of the tables fits the rest of your room or furniture.

I would put the club chairs there with one of the round metal tables between them, and a lamp. But I would add a tablecloth to the table, floor length. Perhaps something in a pretty paisley or morris-inspired design.

Then use the other round wooden table at the intersection of the loveseat and the couch, with the other iron lamp.

I would also turn your rug to run the other direction - it feels like it is flowing out from the couch to the fireplace, and you don't need all that rug in the fireplace area, but it would be nice to have it connected to the seating on either side of the couch.

Do I remember correctly that you were considering wall-mounted lamps on either side of the mantel at one point?

    Love your room.

    Thanks Les,great suggestions.

I will try to do a quick switch of the love seat and club chairs and post a picture. For now my DH is planted in front of the TV watching a ball game. I don't think he will budge until after the Super Bowl so moving furniture right now isn't an option.

You are correct that I was trying to "fill up space with the end tables. The club chairs are small as well. Do you think part of my problem is the scale of my furniture? Our old house had such small rooms that I avoided oversized furniture. The current space is so much different than what I am used to. Should I be looking for new couches instead? or maybe two overstuffed chairs? I'm trying to recycle as much furniture as possible but I do want this room to be perfect since it is the first thing you see when you walk in the door.

Here are a couple of pics of the club chairs.

As for the rug, I recall that you had made that suggestion in my post about our fireplace. I thought that was a good idea at the time and that is actually something I plan to do but it is a big job. The rug is extremely heavy and I am having a hard time convincing my DH it will be an improvement . Maybe we can switch the furniture and move the rug at the same time. Do you think I should center it with the window. If I do it would be several more feet farther from the fireplace. Will that look OK?

Your memory is good. I did decide I wanted to put sconces on my mantle and that is when I lost my way. I started looking at sconces and found several hardwired ones I would love to have. That is when I begin to toy with having an electrician come into do the wiring. A small project was turning into a very expensive project. To add to my frustration the hammered brass lamps that I bought for the end tables on either side of the love seat interfered with TV viewing so I moved those up to the mantle until I can find a better home for them. I am accumulating a store room of bad lamp choices so I'm trying very hard to find uses for some of the things I've been buying.

Can you tell I am in over my head? I have been so impressed with all of the talented people on this forum that I am hoping you can help me find my way. Thanks so much.
