tile pictures, need input.

This is kind of a repeat post from yesterday but now I have the samples in my kitchen.

I'm trying to figure out if I want to use the multi colored tile, which I really like and pair it with

a) the the blue (center tile) mini subway tiles set vertically as the backsplash.

b) a soft, frosted glass

There is a multi colored vertical mini subway piece that I would use as accent over the sink.

or

Do I want to use the ecru/yellow tile as the counter tile and use either the

blue or green mini subways or a blue/green glass tile.

My DH's opinion and that held on the last post was that perhaps the multi colored backsplash is too much, too heavy.

Then there's the possibility of this being too much overall because the colors are so, well, different. I plan on living here at least 5 years so I'd like to enjoy it using my style and in 5 years the styles may have changed again anyway. The has itself has no style being a boring, single story, Calif. Ranch House

Well what do you all think???

This is my kitchen for reference. This encompasses all of my counters and backsplash area. I will have a bar made of wood (still picking it out, perhaps teak)

I've painted the walls using the colors that match the blue and green tile the best. I have no intention of painting my walls those colors. The tile store didn't have the large blue sample or the mini-subways. The orangy tile is my floor.

The last time I had this tile it was whole. There should be two more blue tiles in the corners. I guess someone wanted the blue tiles as samples.

I am bad with color but thought I would bump this up for you...cabinets are gorgeous!

I like everything except the brighter blue clearish glass tile. At least on my monitor, it's hue is too bold with the other more muted colors.

I'm not really a fan of pastels in general, but I like those colors, and I dont think that the multi-colored tiles would be too much color.

    Thanks jayav ;-)

muscat -- I don't like the blue glass either. I didn't have a frosted, lighter one on hand (lord knows I have every other color in the world lol).

I do like those multicolor tiles for the counter. I also like the glass for the backsplash. I am not sure the shiny glass goes with the matte counter, or as others have mentioned the brighter blue with the more subtle colors, but others can help you with that. I do really like each element. I may be visualization challanged tonight. I think That glass is an awesome color if it were put in a more modern space with the right other elements. I guess it seems more modern to me than the traditional cabinets or matte counter, but that may be what you are trying for. I know I like the look of traditional dark cabinets updated with ss appliances and fixtures, because that is what I am doing! I might feel differently if you had a more muted color, frosted glass tile. But what do I know?

I agree with Muscat on the colors. Glass tile in the right color should be fine for the backsplash, but not the dark one in the picture.

All these tiles are very pretty. I'm just going to throw this out there for what it's worth. Robin's egg blue is the current IT color. Along with it they're showing many corollaries such as ice and sky. Generally they're being shown with much darker browns (earth to chocolate). Just know, as you're picking your very pretty tile, that it will be identifiable in the future as having come from this time.

Sue and pllog - I think the idea of a muted, matte, frosted glass is the look I'm going for. Maybe a light sky blue.

I originally was going for the robins egg blue and chocolate brown for my house then I realized that, opps that would definately say 2008.

I'm "hoping" I can pull of a updated psudeo tropical theme with the blue/green/ecru. I live in a beach community so it fits the area. The house really has no style so I get to make it up. I am a little concerned that the look will be dated but so far it's the only thing I've seen that pops for me so I'm willing to risk that ;-)

So I need to order the tile this week. I can't make a decision on a good day but with tile - ack!

    So the choice is

    1) multicolor tile on the counter with the blue tile mini subways as the backsplash

    2) multicolor tile on the counter with a frosty blue glass, either mini subways or 1x1's on the backsplash

    3) ecru (the yellowish one) on the counter with the multi color backsplash

Then to add yet another layer on this, the counter edge trim pieces.

    My choices here are

    1) wood trim to match the bar with a tile skirt below

    2) using an ecru bullnose tile along the outer edges (only comes in ecru)

Thanks for all of your input ;-)

Hi Jenellcal, Blue and browny in a richer color maybe?
Sorry, I can not find a U.S version but here is an idea anyway. The enlargement doent work on the site, it shows a different color. So, you may have to squint.

Jenellecal, I think your tiles are lovely, and with the more terracotta color they shouldn't shout the style. First it'll look in but different, then there'll probably be about a year where it'll feel just so out, then it'll be over and it'll be your own style, and not about fashion at all. Kitchens should outlast fashion :)

I definitely vote for the ecru bullnose edge. Wood edges on tile counters are just places where your counter doesn't function the same way as the rest. Though if you want a retro look it's an option. Bullnose is more up to date, besides the functionality.

For the beachy look you're going for I'd choose a paler frosty blue thank your linked ones appear for the backsplash, and the multi tiles on the counter. This one might be too light.

terible - I didn't consider putting the brown back in (one of my 1st ideas) I'll look at the combos at the tile store.

plllog- I really don't want the retro look, I lived it lol. DH is considering the wood trim idea I think it will scream 1980's blue, geese country. I was just on the Cool Tiles website when I bounced back over here.
