Bennington Gray

Hello everyone. Sorry if this posted twice. I posted it about an hour ago and can't find my posting anyway. Hmmmm....

Anyway, I was wondering if Bennington Gray is really a gray, or if it really a beige like some online sites are saying. I'm really confused about this color. If it is taupe, does that make it a warm or cool color?

Does anyone have pictures to share of this color in their home, especially with medium colored wood furniture. Thanks so much!

Color is not absolute. It is all about relationships.

If you have beige carpets and put BG on the walls, the paint will look gray. If you have a dark steely blue carpet, the paint may read beige. Similarly, taupe can be warm or cool depending on what is around it.

Here's the other thing....these discussions about color and paint are also all about semantics. When you see a school bus, what color do you say it is? One person's orange is another person's yellow. We all see things differently and then when we add language to the process, things are even more confusing. It's no wonder you are confused! :-)

The only way to know if this color will work for you in your home in that particular room is to get a sample, either a giant chip or a tester pot or a quart. My life is all about paint and even I cannot tell you whether BG will look taupe or beige or gray or even green in your home. I wish it were easier, but it ain't.

The only way to flatten this is to go get a sample and see what happens. Then, you can come back and tell us if it worked. If it didn't and you can articulate why, then we can send you in a different direction -- and hopefully the right direction. Good luck!

It is a Benjamin Moore paint. I am going to try it in my house, but first I'm confused because some websites say the color is actually beige despite the title. Others disagree. I guess it could be the whole yellow school bus thing. :)

I have Bennington Grey in my family room and it's really a beautiful color. Sometimes it reads grey, sometimes green, but I've never seen it look beige in my room. I have however seen it referred to as a beige too.
My family room has vaulted ceilings, 2 french doors with transoms facing east, (no window treatments) & 2 windows on the south facing wall that have plantation shutters that are closed 99.9 % of the time. The flooring is a textured carpet by Masland & the color is "linen". The Bennington Grey does change color through out the day however it always looks beautiful.
So sometimes my bus is orange, sometimes it's yellow, and sometimes it's a combo of the two ;-)
Unfortunately I'm not home so I can't take a photo to post, sorry. Not that it would help because I think a time lapse photo would be best.
I agree with getting a sample to see how it looks in your home as the light changes.

in the room i sampled bennington gray in, it read strongly green... i can see how some people might describe it a beige...seems to me green undertones makes it read more beige than blue undertones would---at least to some people- the yellow in the green make it "beigey" i guess---but, looking at the color, 'i' wouldn't call it beige!

A google image search came up with some photos. Hope it will help. Hopefully those who actually have it will continue to chime in because they can give the best feedback.

Thats where I saw it too (Ethan Allen)! Painted my open concept living room and kitchen with it and have loved it ever since. Now in 2021 Im thinking I want to go a bit lighter and airier so am looking for a lighter version… any suggestions?
