I agree with your window treatment lady. Roman shades would look perfect IMO.

I think roman shades over wood blinds is a bit of overkill, don't you? I do love sheers over blinds, with drapes over all, though. I think you are right to keep all the window treatments in the room the same.

It will be beautiful. Our bedroom needs a makeover, too, but I'm too lazy. Have fun!

One thing I should point out is that our home is a 1928 colonial and I'm going for a mix of old and new.

My new thought is to have straight hanging panels on either side of the window and add sheers that can be swept to the sides. I think that would soften the drape panels and at the same time give a vintage touch.

Does that make sense?

I usually don't like short panels. I think a roman shade or valance would be best from what you're describing.

Guest room. Just panels, no sheers. My idea would incorporate pulled back sheers in the master bedroom. This pic is just to show twoo panels and blinds:

This is the MBR with just sheers. We are adding softly striped panels and this is where I want to see if adding sheers would soften the look of the panels, mostly because of the window seat which is in the last pic:

I think drapes/curtains should be all the same in one room. That said, how about putting drapes with sheers and pulling them to each side, like you have the sheers now, or even let them hang straight...on both windows, of course. I don't think it would look out of place on your window seat.

How about a faux London shade valance like this?

I was thinking about just a matching valance over the window seat too. I would not want 2 different fabrics in the same room. A valance would still look like a drapery treatment, IMHO a roman shade is a shade not a drape.
