how do I paint this area?

If anyone can give me advice on how to post some pics, please let me know! In the meantime I will try my best to explain. I just ripped some outdated wallpaper out of my breakfast area, which spans over 2 walls. One wall is actually a half-wall that looks into the family room. It includes a pillar/support beam. The other wall (with cathedral ceilings) has a large window in it. My wallpaper covered the half walls and was topped with a border, and this was extended into the second wall. The border was continued into the actual kitchen, above the backsplash.

Now I need to repaint, but only want to paint those areas that had the wallpaper, i.e. NOT the whole kitchen and not that pillar/support beam. How do I do this to make it flow? It was easy with the wallpaper border. DH says just to tape it off but I think that will look bad in terms of not having a transition of any sort. I will be going with some sort of light neutral color, maybe something a bit creamy, so it wouldn't be anything bright. Please help! Thank you in advance.

Upload photos to Photobucket or another service like Photobucket and then copy and paste the html code right in the body of the message. Your picture will appear where ever you paste in the code.

Got any zoomed out to capture more of the space?

Sorry, those pics were the best I could do...I think I noted before this area has cathedral ceilings and I don't want to paint the entire walls, just the half wall area.

I'm confused. In the first photo, do you just want to paint the half wall? In the seond photo you want to paint all of these walls? In the third, you want to cut off at the kitchen on the lower half or entire wall?

Without a full photo showing the entire area, it may be difficult to give accurate advice.

    Brutuses,

sorry for the confusion. Photos 1 and 3 are of the same wall, I should have put those next to each other. The 1/2 wall you see in photo 1, on the right side, is what you also see extending in photo 2. I will definitely be painting the half walls. Those half walls were completely wallpapered, with the border above it on that support beam/pillar. Now if you look at photos 1 and 3, the wallpaper went as high as the lower cabinet, which was the exact height of the half wall. I only want to paint up to that same level. The dilemma is how to do it so it looks nice. Hope that makes sense.

My only recommendation is if you want to paint half walls and walls that run into another room that you don't want to paint that color, then you could use molding of some kind to transition the area (a stopping point). Like you would a chair rail. That make sense? Am I helping? LOL It's so difficult to do these things by way of the typed word and not physically being there. To stop a color from going into the next space, but is on the same wall, you can use decorative vertical pieces. I don't have a photo of one on hand, but could find it for you so you can see what I'm talking about.

If I understand properly, you ripped out dated wallpaper half wall and and want to replace it with a different color paint? I'm not sure that will actually update it. It looks more updated as one color with no break up in color. I take it you don't want to paint what doesn't need to be painted? If it's important to paint it a different color, I agree with the architectural molding or if the space is contemporary enough, painting a horizontal 'border' of a third color. I'd keep them all in the same neutral family, different values. make sense?
