Thank you....It does look beautiful..I would like something a little less dramatic though since the area is quite large and also, I want to lighten things up a bit . The kitchen doesn't get much natural light.

Oh boy.. that is such a personal choice. I think a rustic stone work would look lovely (but I love rustic mixed with modern) but keeping the stone a bit modern too. I'm not a huge fan of the oblong glass look, i think that will date quicker. - but that's my opinion. I have a light stone tile (similar to the second picture) in my kitchen that has been there for 2 years now, and still looks like new. As long as it is sealed.. wipes clean, but I also never had any big blender mishaps either. lol I think keeping with the rest of the house, style wise is important too. . In the end, what did help me decide, is bringing a bunch of samples home to see it against your cabinets and counter top will help.You have a beautiful kitchen, what ever you choose, I'm sure will look gorgeous!

There is a pattern on the fabric of the stools... use rustic white onyx with one row of a color (green, red or the striated beige onyx) from the fabric or from the granite...

Consider a mix of inexpensive field tile such as a ceramic 4"x4" or 3"x6" combined with a 3"-4" band of glass stile that picks up the some color from the countertops. The field tile will allow the glass tile to "pop" and provide more bang for your buck. Try to place the glass tile band either above or below your switches and outlets to make installation easier. Regardless of what tile you choose, it is very important to "color seal" your grout.

Your kitchen is lovely. Have you seen the glass backsplash these days. Take a look at www.colourglaze.com. There are so many options to choose. You can really make a statement with the glass. Depending on what colour you choose, it can be modern or traditional whichever you prefer.

All that timber is giving plenty of warmth. Go a real contrast splash back. I've just done a 7' high by 10' wide splash back in patterened pressed tin. Way cheaper than glass and you can DIY. Otherwise go a tile but consider a good contrast like the greeny colour

Your kitchen looks very much like mine. I left the backsplash empty for three months until I decided in 2 x 4 in taupe glass tile that I found at Lowes of all places! It is fabulous and doesnt detract from the gorgeous wood.

Not able to upload a photo right now but it was American Olean DG34-sand(color) 2X4- 1/4 glass tile. It has a great reflective quality. I bought more than I needed but since it was not a special order, I was able to return any broken or chipped tiles, not always an option with special orders. Also had them installed in a subway pattern.
