Flooring help

My family room is situated between the master bedroom and the kitchen, and has doors or doorways at each corner. One doorway opens to the kitchen, which has light beige-grayish ceramic tile. I am happy with the tile as it is new, and coordinates well with the decor and colors in the kitchen. Other doors lead to a hallway, the master bedroom , and the garage. The famly room, master, and hallway are carpeted in a light beige-almost off white, which closely matches the ceramic tile in the kitchen. I want to install wood in the family room only as we enter the house from the garage, and lots of dirt gets tracked in. Also, the carpet is in the family room is looking pretty bad. Even though the master is off the family room, there is an alcove,so the bedroom canot be seen from the family room. Would this look too choppy? Would this be too much contrast with the kitchen flooring? I would go with a medium brown wood to match beams in the family room. Thanks for your help.
